OF DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE
VOLUME 43
BROWN WOOD TEXAS FRIDAY OCTOBER 5 1951
NUMBER 1
The
DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE OPENS FALL SEMESTER
STUDENT BODY ASSOCIATION
COMPLETES LOUNGE PROJECT
The Student Body Association
under the direction of the Student
Body president Ed Byrd has al-
most finished the job of redecorat-
ing the new Student Lounge. This
project was started last Spring
semester but was completed dur-
ing the Summer term. We can feel
great pride in this room for it
was through the help of all the
students that the room is now the
most attractive spot on the cam-
pus. Those who did not actually
labor in the rejuvenation process
helped by donating money to buy
materials. Boys and girls on the
campus spent many hours work-
ing on this room. But each of
them now feels that his time was
well spent.
We still owe the Ranch Week
Fund for part of the new furni-
ture so in the near future plans
are being made to have some so-
cial functions which may have a
small admission price. If you en-
joy this room and the corral let's
all come out and help pay for the
furniture. At present the corral is
being redecorated under the di-
rection of Sud Kishpaugh who
needs some willing workers to as-
sist with the labor. If you have
some spare time go over to the
corral and "make like" a carpen-
ter. Georgia needs a new coffee urn
for the corral. How about it?
Could we as a student body con-
tribute it to the new corral?

Endowment And
Building Program
Launched By DBC
An endowment and building pro-
gram of $2500000 has been start-
ed by the administration of Dan-
iel Baker College and the Board of
Trustees to cover a 5 year period.
It is hoped that physical change
and improvements can be started
by the start of the 1952 school
year. Some of the objectives to-
ward which the college aspires
are:
1. A curriculum comparable to
any college of high standing in
the U. S.
2. A faculty of highest possible
standing.
3. A student body of approx-
imately four hundred. (It is not
the intent to transform Daniel
Baker into a large school but one
which will allow an efficient ad-
ministration where the students
may secure the individual attention
of top ranking professors).
4. Daniel Baker shall not be a
rich man's school. It is desired
that at least 100 deserving stu-
dents otherwise financially un-
able will be granted through
scholarships and other mtans the
opportunity to further their edu-
cation at our institution.
5. That the physical plant of the
school must be remodeled and new
facilities added which will allow
efficient operations and pleasant
surroundings and" comfort to
which students will naturally grav-
itate. Plans are under way to reno-
vate the Administration Building
and render the third floor usable
as classroom space. The Auditor-
ium and Men's Dormitory need
renovating and the Library and
Science Building while adequate
at the present time to service the
number of students now enrolled
will need to be expanded and new
equipment installed to meet the

VARSITY PLAYERS
CHOOSE COMEDY
After long and careful scrutiny
of the latest Broadway productions
and the more edifying of the works
of classical playwrights Mr. Ains-
worth has announced that the Dan-
iel Baker Varsity Players have
chosen a play for the first fall
production. The play is "Charley's
Aunt." What this classic lacks in
refinement it makes up in raucous
good humor and should be right
up the director's alley.
Try-outs for the cast will bo
held as soon as the books arrive
and since the cast is rather large
the faculty as well as the student
body are invited to take part.
If you have thespian yearnings
or just plain like to show off
watch for the announcement ofa
tryouts.
Pessimists think all women im-
moral. Optimist hope so.
