Dr. Holden Bossing Job;
Unsightly Spot Being
Covered by Workers
The natural desire of every man lo
build something with his hands bios
toroed into fruition on the McMurry
Campus this week with the erection ol
rock house to properly house the col-
let museum. With Dr. William Curry
Holden as foreman slrawboss and
water-boy sud' students 'of his. classes
as assistants they are building around
the (rase of the oki structure a prlml
the frontier rock house.
Rocks and travel have been hauled
from various places lo build the house.
The foundation was laid early in the
week and actual work of erecting the
walla atarted Tuesday When complet-
ed the building will r.serable some of
the houses erected in the early daya of
West Teas. The structure is in keep
Ing with the contents of the museum
The owing of rocks will hide one
of the historic spots on the campus.
Belore It attained the dignified name
of "Museum" It was just plain old
"Mule Barn." It was erected in bep
temler W23 and was McMurry'a first
gymnasium. Here the first football team
suited out for Us first home victory. It
waa also used in those days as a meet
ing place for the 1. 11. H. and withm its
four walls the organisation was formal
ly organised. Aa such meeting place it
waa the scene ol many torturing expert
encea if reports ol some of the charter
members may be trusted Houston
"Stud" Sell waa Big Chief in those days
and weilded the flail with deadly ac-
curacy and results.
la ni it became the muaaaam aad
vwea formally dedicated with appropriate
VJrremony depicting the hospitality ol
the old Weal. It houses the largest col
lection ol branding iron iu the world
aad UMly am other articles of fron-
tier history have Veen added. The idea
of establishing such a collection waa
that of Dr. Holden. He slates that ho
conceived it while twekjng through the
McMurry library when he ran across a
book entitled "The Branding Iron" It
is appropriate that he la superintending i
the erection of the buUdtag
When it U completed vines will be
planted ground It making it a beauty
spot at the campus if the present plant
are earned out.
