JAMES M. DAY, "The Chisos Quicksilver Bonanza in the Big
Bend of Texas," received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the
University of Texas, where he is presently a Ph.D. candidate. He
has been a member of the history faculty at Howard County
Junior College, and is currently Archivist for the Texas State
Library.
C. C. JEFFRIES, "The Character of Terry's Texas Rangers," is
a well-known Association member of long standing. He has pre-
viously published a number of articles and short stories from his
broad knowledge of Texas history. His article, "Life at Winkler,"
personal reminiscences of his hometown, appeared in the July,
196o, Quarterly.
STEPHEN B. OATES, "Recruiting Confederate Cavalry in Texas,"
is the author of numerous articles and a soon to be published
book on Confederate Cavalry in the Trans-Mississippi. As a re-
search associate at the University of Texas, where he received his
B.A. and M.A. degrees, he is presently editing the Memoirs
of John S. "Rip" Ford and compiling a documentary history of
Texas during the Civil War.
GEORGE NIELSEN, "Mathew Caldwell," is a member of the his-
tory department at Concordia Teachers College, River Forest,
Illinois, having received his M.A. degree from the University
of Houston. His present article is an extension of a documentary
study in the April, 196o, Quarterly, "Mathew Caldwell and the
'Texan Santa Fe Expedition," stemming from his graduate work
at the University of Texas.
