H. BAILEY CARROLL, "Hurricane Carla at Galveston," is the
editor of the Southwestern Historical Quarterly.
MILLICENT HUFF, "Hurricane Carla at Galveston," received her
B.J. and M.A. degrees at the University of Texas and is now an
editorial assistant of the Texas State Historical Association. She
was a reporter for the Port Arthur News at the time that Carla
hit the Texas coast.
R. HENDERSON SHUFFLER, "The Signing of Texas' Declaration
of Independence: Myth and Record," received his B.A. degree
from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College and is presently
the director of Information and Publications there. The July
issue of the Quarterly carried his article on "The Ark of the
Covenant of the Texas Declaration of Independence."
B. P. GALLAWAY, "Population Trends in the Western Cross
Timbers of Texas, 1890-1960: Growth and Distribution," is pres-
ently a teaching assistant in the history department at the Univer-
sity of Texas where he is a candidate for a Ph.D. degree. He is
on leave from Abilene Christian College, where he is an assistant
professor of history.
BEVERLY ANN CHIODO, "Real County," is presently a student in
Baylor University. At the time the article was written she was a
member of Junior Historian Chapter No. 191, Sabinal High
School. The article won first prize in the 1961 Junior Historian
Writing Contest and was selected for publication in the Quarterly
as an example of outstanding Junior Historian work in a field
where historical efforts have been quite limited.
B. C. THARP, "Mary S. Young's Journal of Botanical Explora-
tions in Trans-Pecos Texas, August-September, 1914," is professor
emeritus of botany at the University of Texas.
