one was published by N. D. Thompson and Company, St. Louis, Missouri, and the
other was engraved and published by Rand, McNally and Company, Chicago, Illinois.
The latter copy has the following note: "This map with index by which all counties,
cities, railroads, lakes, rivers, etc. ... can be located as readily as a word can be
found in a dictionary; with population, names of Express Companies, etc. ...
Neatly bound, price 75 cents." Besides the items in this note, the map, printed in
two colors, shows location of Indian tribes, roads, routes of military surveyors with
names of leaders and dates, Indian trails, Indian academies, Indian agencies,
creeks, emigrant and pioneer routes, mountains, comments on water, notes on some
boundaries, forts, camps, Indian reservations, parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri,
New Mexico, Kansas, and Mexico. Inset: [Western tip of Texas]. Scale: 11/ inches-
50 miles. Size: 26 inches x 20 inches.
