Members of the Association and others who may be purchasers
of books or other material are hereby notified and reminded of a
current widespread practice and recent innovation in the state
of Texas: namely, the sales tax. The law does specify (and it is
applicable to the Association, even as a non-profit institution)
that the sales tax be paid on all purchases-the exception being
to articles purchased for bona fide resale and those purchased by
bona fide state institutions which have previously been given a
numbered exemption. Those from within the state making an
order from the Association should state definitely that the article
or articles are to be offered for resale or include an exemption
Full cooperation will be much appreciated, especially by Mrs.
Tullis who has had the multiple problems of the sales tax dropped
upon her careful accounting customs and procedures.
