sociation, the Texas Library and Historical Commission, and
the Texas State Historical Survey Committee presented a cer-
tificate of merit "for his continuing devotion to the preservation
of the heritage of Texas" to Walter Long. And finally, the
association gave a merit award for 1966 to the Texas State Library
"for meritorious achievement in broadening the role of the
library in its service to the State."
The Jefferson Historical Museum recently moved into new
quarters in the former post office and federal building, built in
189o and purchased from the government in 1965 through the
efforts of J. A. R. Moseley. On March 5, Moseley and his wife
were honored at an appreciation dinner in the Excelsior Hotel
for their untiring service in the preservation of Jefferson history.
Many donors have contributed extensively to the restoration
of the building as a museum and art gallery. Already it contains
a variety of rifles, Indian relics, a collection of Sam Houston
papers, and antiques including a desk which belonged to T. J.
Taylor, the father of Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson.
Robert S. Maxwell of Stephen F. Austin State College pre-
sented a paper on "The Lumbermen of the Texas Frontier," at
the fifty-ninth annual meeting of the Organization of American
Historians in Cincinnati on April 28-30o, 1966. Other historians
from Texas who participated as session chairmen and commenta-
tors, or gave papers on non-Texas subjects included A. Elizabeth
Taylor of Texas Woman's University, Nannie M. Tilley of Com-
merce, George Wolfskill of Arlington State College, and Michael
G. Hall and H. Wayne Morgan of the University of Texas.
Recently the Historical Commission Section of the Michigan
Department of State sent the Association a photograph identified
as the "Ox team of Oscar P. Perkins, Magnolia, Texas, 1911,"
which will be placed in the Archives of the University of Texas
Library.
At the annual meeting of the American Pharmaceutical Asso-
ciation, its section on historical pharmacy heard papers about
"A Pioneer Drug Store in Vernon, Texas," by Edwin S. Malone,
