was the reliving of emotions and activities that have been experienced as
long as man has been man:
The violent killing of animals for food.
The cooperation of several families together.
The sharing of the meat among these families.
The teaching of "younguns" by the elders.
The frantic teamwork of old and young together.
The recognition of the mystery and beauty of the insides of
animals.
The direct roasting of freshed killed meat tidbits on a hot
flat rock.
The enjoyment of the more formal meal from a fresh killed
animal.
The storage of meat for future days.
The direct participation in all these primordial activities in one day
stirred a subconscious link directly to man's activities before the dawn of
history. No wonder we kids had a "hog-killing good time"-and we used
just that expression throughout the rest of the year, when other phrases
would not succeed in describing the best of enjoyable times.
