Meetings
The Association's annual meeting will be held March 3-5, i977, in
Dallas, at the Baker Hotel. Sessions will cover such topics as local histor-
ians and academic historians; social development; reform; diplomatic,
business, and military history; frontier religion; Texas Indians; histor-
ical artists; photography; and local material culture-such as textile pro-
duction, food habits, and folkways.
The I977 auction of Texana will be dedicated to Harry H. Ransom,
former associate editor of the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, and presi-
dent and chancellor of the University of Texas System. It seems parti-
cularly appropriate that the TSHA should honor the man whose book
collecting skills have made the University of Texas libraries known world-
wide for their breadth and scholarly value, with an auction featuring more
choice Texana than we have seen in many a year.
Numerous first editions are to be on the block and a number of special
and interesting items of Texana. For example, admirers of Tom Lea will
find at least three prizes from among his works. Donated by the King
Ranch are mint copies of Lea's The King Ranch and In the Crucible
of the Sun-and the author has autographed both works. Carl Hertzog
has contributed a unique copy of Lea's Calender of Twelve Travelers-
one of a special printing by Hertzog (half-size facsimiles) of ioo copies on
all-rag paper and bound in cloth (with several variants). This copy bears
the autographs of Lea and Hertzog. Its illustrations have been charmingly
hand-colored by Jos Cisneros, who spiced his additions by inscribing the
book, "Badly damaged by J. Cisneros B."
Aficionados of Texas art should be further delighted by a fine Ansel
Nunn lithograph, donated to the auction by the artist.
Such offerings are particularly eye catching, but they are backed by
a solid list of beautiful, useful, interesting, and in many cases scarce or
rare materials. Generous help from collectors, publishers, authors, book
stores, and other donors has assured the auction a wide selection of books
and other Texana on all manner of subjects-a variety which offers some-
thing for almost any interest.
Clippings
The Oklahoma Historical Society has found among its holdings a copy
of The Oklasodak, published in San Benito, Texas, on August 25, I916.
