Meetings
The Association will hold its 1982 annual meeting in Austin, March
4-6. Program chairman for next year's meeting is Byron B. Price,
Panhandle-Plains Museum, Canyon 79015.
The East Texas Historical Association will hold its annual meeting
September 25-26 in Nacogdoches.
The annual meeting of the Western History Association will be held
in San Antonio, October 14-17-

At the annual meeting in El Paso, March 5-7, Marilyn McAdams
Sibley became president of the Texas State Historical Association. A
gracious, learned lady, Marilyn follows in the footsteps of Merle Dun-
can and Anne Brindley, other women who have served as president of
the state's oldest learned society in recent years. She brings to the
position long experience with the Association, having served on the
Executive Council and many committees for a number of years.
Marilyn's ancestors came to America in 1769, and so her roots are
deep in her native land; those roots are also deep because she is a
serious student of history, especially Texas history. Her scholarly
works include Travelers in Texas, 1760-z860; George W. Bracken-
ridge; The Port of Houston; and numerous articles and book reviews
in a wide range of journals. Samuel H. Walker's Account of the Mier
Expedition, which she edited, was published by the Association in
1978. Marilyn is currently writing a book on Texas newspapers before
the Civil War.
The mother of three sons-two are practicing dentists and the third
is in dental school-Marilyn took her bachelor's degree in English at
Sam Houston State University. In 1961 she earned a master's degree in
history from the University of Houston, and four years later Rice
granted her the doctorate in history. The following year she joined the
