Affairs of the Association

PROPOSED BYLAWS OF THE
TEXAS STATE HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION
ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this Society shall be THE TEXAS STATE HISTORI-
CAL ASSOCIATION, sometimes referred to herein as "Association."
ARTICLE II. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Association shall be to foster the appreciation,
understanding, and teaching of the rich and unique history of Texas
and by example and through programs and activities encourage and
promote research, preservation, and publication of historical material
affecting the state of Texas.
ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP
There shall be three classes of membership in the Association:
3.1. Member. A Member is a person or entity interested in supporting
the purpose of the Association and is current with payment of dues. In
all matters governed by the vote of the membership a Member shall be
entitled to one vote. A Member must be present to vote, and the right
to vote cannot be delegated by proxy, except in the case of a legal en-
tity, such entity may designate an individual present at the meeting to
cast its vote.
3.2. Additional Classifications of Members. Various additional classifica-
tions of membership have been established by the Executive Council,
namely, Life Member, Sustaining Member, Patron, Institutional, and
Corporate Member. An individual or entity who has paid into the Trea-
sury of the Association a one-time contribution or annual dues for the
particular level of membership as determined by the Executive Council
shall be accordingly classified as Life Member, Sustaining Member, Pa-
tron, Institutional, or Corporate Member. The voting rights of the re-
spective classifications shall be the same as active members.
3.3. Honorary Life Member. A person who has rendered eminent ser-
vice to Texas or to the Association may be elected an Honorary Life
Member by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the members of the Executive
Council present at the meeting in which the vote is taken. Such mem-
ber shall be exempt from the payment of dues and shall have no voting
rights.
ARTICLE IV. MEETING OF THE MEMBERSHIP
4.1. Annual Meetzngs. Annual meetings of the Association shall be
held at a place in the state of Texas and at such times as may be deter-
