Graphite on paper. Alabama planter Henry Field was captivated by scenes like
this during his 1853 sojourn through Central Texas. Describing the Seguin area
in his travel diary, Field noted "mesquite and live oak over the prairies on the
river . . . the town of Seguin [is] a very pretty place.. " Field and his family
moved to Central Texas two years later. Collection of the McNay Art Museum, San
