Spring Sing at Howard
Payne University has a story
to tell students and visiting
Stinger Daze guests this
Thursday and Friday. Each
year during Spring Sing
campus organizations are
given a certain amount of
time to illustrate their mean-
ing of the chosen theme
while incorporating HPU
spirit into what they present.
This year's theme is "Life Is
A Story."
"We've put a lot of ef-
fort into it but whatever we
do it's all for fun" said Se-
nior Social Worker major
Monica Brand. Brand is re-
sponsible for Zeta Zeta Zeta
and their contribution to
HPU's two nights of story
telling bonanza.
Brand's statement says
it all when it comes to the at-
titude organizations are tak-
ing on for Spring Sing. The
organizations will be compet-
ing for cash prizes in first
second and third places.
Spring Sing will present a
mixed array of comedy mys-
tery choreography and love
ballads all within the context
of a story. It will begin at 7:30
p.m. on Thursday and 8:30
p.m. on Friday. Tickets for
Thursday and Friday night
can be purchased at the
Harrison House.

Members oflXA and the music department work to build the set and
stage for "Kiss Me Kate" at Northridge Baptist church.
JULIE MERWARTH
Yellow Jacket Staff Writer
The Howard Payne Uni-
versity School of Music will
present the musical production
Kiss Me Kate on February 27
through March 2 under the
direction of Dr. Nancy Jo
Humfeld Director of Musical
Theater.
Because of renovations to
Coggin Theater the show will
be moved to Northridge Bap-
tist Church. The cast is very
excited about performing Kiss
Me Kate in a new location.
"As actors we need to be
able to adjust to another stage
but I'll miss Coggin Theater"
said Amber O'Neill cast
member.
Kiss Me Kate opens with
the Baltimore opening of a
revival of Shakespeare's The
Taming of the Shrew. The
cast of the revival is on stage
and receiving final instruc-
tions. In the cast with producer-actor
Fred Graham
(senior Brennon Ewen) are
his former wife Lilli (senior
Elisa Wallace) Lois (senior
Amber O'Neill) a singer in
whom he is interested and
Bill Calhoun (junior Clay
West) who is Lois' interest.
The irresponsible Bill
informs Lois that he has
signed Graham's name to a
$10000 IOU for gambling
debts. She begs him to re-
form. Graham and Lilli patch
up their differences as they
reminisce nostalgically
about other shows in which
they have appeared together.
Graham sends a bouquet to
Lois which is delivered in er-
ror to Lilli. As The Taming
of the Shrew gets under way
Lilli discovers the mistake
and as the first act ends she
is raging both in character
and in reality.
"Kiss Me Kate offers a
unique opportunity to per-
form Shakespeare within a
context of a musical" said
Humfeld. "So the audience is
getting double for their
money."
The cast consists of 35
people and as is typical of re-
cent HPU musicals Kiss Me
Kate is a very high energy
