Many talented athletes
come to Howard Payne Uni-
versity to compete and take
their talent to another level.
There are few athletes
with the combined attitude
and athleticism of Senior
Christy Williams.
On Mar. 1 after the
Austin College match up
Christy was presented with
one of the biggest honors of
her career.
For her unbelievable
accomplishments Christy
was presented with her
number 34 jersey and told
that it would be retired
mounted framed and hung
in the hallway of the athletic
building.
After Christy scored
1889 points and brought
down 940 rebounds in her

career at HPU Coach John
Nichols the athletic depart-
ment and Dr. Newberry felt
that such an amazing athlete
should be recognized in a
unique and special way.
The entire experience
was both overwhelming and
exciting for Christy.
"It's the most awesome
feeling and honor that I could
ever have. I never imagined
this would ever come about
in my career" said Williams.
"I hope that I was a positive
role model to my teammates
to always give 110 percent
because that's all I ever did."
Christy's high point
game came this season when
she brought in 47 points 35
of which were in the second
half against McMurry.
Such numbers take a
great deal of consistency and
skill which head women's

basketball coach John Nichols
said Christy definitely has.
"Christy is both consis-
tent and multiskilled. She is a
very mobile and quick player
that is not one dimensional"
said Nichols. "She doesn't just
score or rebound or play good
defense.. .she does all of these.
Her athletic ability is excep-
tional. Christy brought a lot of
enjoyment to the spectators
and fans that were able to
watch her throughout her en-
tire career at Howard Payne.
President of Howard
Payne Dr. Don Newberry
who can always be found sup-
porting the athletic program
has always been impressed
with Christy's abilities both on
and off of the court.
