duced the son or the Democ-
ratic Presidential Candidate
to an enthusiastic crowd
which almost filled the au-
ditorium. Carter hettan hy joki n
with the audience and then
made a brief serious state-
ment. "We need a leader in
Washinttton who has worked
for a living'." Carter said.
"We need a farmer a
businessman
He lauded his father's re-
cord as Governor of Georgia
and said Jimmy Carter
thinks he could cut five to
seven percent from the
hudttet of all federal depart-
ments hy simply slashing'
unneeded expenses.
During the question and
answer period 41 student
asked young Carter which
government position his
lather would give to Chip
Carter should .Jimmy be
elected.
"1 will take as much bur-
den as I can off my dad" he
said then added "by running
the peanut farm back in
Georttia."

The McMurry College
Band has a new look this
year. The Maidenettes and
the two drum majors have
new uniforms. Also there are
more btudents in the band
this year. They look and
sound super according to
comments at the last football
game.

the Democratic Nominee's
son Chip Carter toured the
tettion with stops in Abilene
Midland and San Angolo.
The appointments were re-
leased simultaneously from
the Carter headquarters in
Austin by campaittn co-
chairmen Bob Armstrong
and Calvin Guest.
"We expect to carry West
Texas" said Glyn L Day Jr.
the campaign's regional
coordinator who accom-
panied young Carter on the
campaign swing.

Abilene yountt Carter met

ers of his father's presiden-

an Abilene attorney and
Taylor County Democratic
Chairman;
'Mrs. Nancy Perkins an
Abilene housewife and a
member of the state Democ-
ratic executive committee
from the 2lth district; and
'Mr. Harold Straughn a
communications worker who
was elected as a Carter dele-
gate to the Democratic Na-
tional Convention in the
May primary.
The Inter-Club council
will sponsor a craft sale on
Oct. 15-16 in the foyer of
Radford. Mark your calendar
for the event.
The American Watercolor
Society's exhibit of 50 paint-
ings opens Sept. 20th in the
Gallery of Ryan Fine Arts
Building. The viewing hours
will be 8-5 on regular school-
days. All paintings are for
sale but must complete the
show circuit before posses-
sion is possible. All faculty
staff and students are in-
vited to come by dnd see the
show. College Series credit
will be given for seeing it.
