Student government is fun and
interesting It can be used as an
eflect i e tool to sol e some of the
problems on campus or it can be
condemned b the uninformed
student as ineffective and unre-

moie than a small group of stu-

When elected Attorney Gen-
eral for the 1978-1979 year I did
not fully understand what that
position meant In a year's tune
however I am able to see the
necessity of the office of Attor-
ney General and I especially
realize the need for each student
to know that the Attorney Gen-
eral is prepared to help him or
her Tor this reason and on my
experience I offer my candidacy

He is fascinated by tactical ad-
justments to technology "con-
ventional war in the threat of
nuclear override" and the prob-
lems of modern command
Vandiver can nlso point out
some fascinating problems fac-
ing a biographer.
"Like nil academic fields
biography is subject to fads" he
comments "Currently we have
n devotion to psycho-biography
nnd I don't mean that nccessar-
il in a bad way
Then there is the effect of
modern technology on biog-
raphy What have the media
meant to biography? Interview
techniques? Movies? Video?
There is n question of intertpro-
tntion "
Dr Vandiver says he feels the
late President of the Confeder-
ate States of America hns been
unjustly wronged
"I'm an intensely pro-
Jefferson Davis type I feel he
has been made a scapegoat for
the defeat of the Confederacy far
too long I would like to see a
fairer shake given n man who
received no good news after
1862 "
Dr Vandiver got interested in
Civil War events "in my own
dim and distant past" when he
went on an automobile trip as a
child with his mother through
the South and got a chance to
view some of the old battlefields
particularly Vicksburg
His interest in General John
J Pershing about whom he
wrote the prize winning biog-
raphy BLACK JACK is much
more recent
