by competitive tape auditions to

Methodist band and choir direc-
tors from Texas and New Mex-
icl" Dr. Sumcrlin Says.

from among Methodist students
currently enrolled in the public
schools of Texas and New Mex-
ico in grades 10 through 12."
The honor program will be
held on the McMurry College
campus June 7-14 this year. A

Provides Variety
In keeping with the liberal
arts nature of McMurry College
and the desire for community
College scries offers an oppor-
tunity to enhance the cultural
and intellectual life of the entire
college community. The College
Scries committee composed of
faculty and students tries to
provide a varied program which
will contribute to broaden the
horizons of learning.
For Fall 1980 the College v
Sorieu program has been mod-
ified. Required attendance for
all full-time students is four 14)
programs with only ono (1) de-
partmental offoring to bo
counted.
Any student who cannot meet
College Series requirements
must moot with the Associate
Dean of Students Services in
order to work out an alternative
program. A student who does
not attend Aho required number
of programs will be placed on
DISCIPLINARY PROBATION.
Subsequent failure to attend
may result in suspension from
tho College.
The fall schedules is outlined
below. At each program the
student will obtain a two-part
ticket ope sido on which ho will
register his attendance and the
other ho will retain for his own
records.
In order that each person who
attonds College Sories may
enjoy and derive tho maximum
benefit from the experience
Scries which is designed to en
hance the cultural and intellec-
tual life of the college community.

for both instrumentalists and
vocalists.
McMurry College will sponsor
the entire program.
James Pearce McMurry

have charge of the honor choir.
Tommy J. Fry McMurry direc-
tor of bands will direct the
honor band.
Pearce came to McMurry after
n peforming career. He sang as
tenor soloist with the Bavarian
State Opera In West Germany.
Fry returned to the McMurry
music faculty after establishing
n national reputation as the
composer of such works as "Pas-
sacaglia and Allegro" "Blascn-
fest" nnd "Triptych for Or-
chestra." good manners and proper be
havior are expected at all times.
Talking eating rustling pap-
ers annoys the guest performer
as well as other individuals in
the audience. Food and beverage
should not be brought into the
auditorium. Paper and trash
should not be loft in tho au-
ditorium. The College community is
grateful for your cooperation in
making College Series truly
meaningful.

Dr. Jones is president of Uiff
School of Theology In Denver a
position he has held since Sep-
tember 1969. Prior to joining
Uiff he had been pastor of Gobin
Memorial United Methodist
Church on the Campus of Do-
Pauw University.
Hcls president of the Associa-
tion of United Methodist
Theological Schools. He is also
president of the University Se-
nate of the United Methodist
Church.
Dr. Jones has been a delegate
to UMC general conferences In
1968 1970 1976 and 1980.
From 1958 to 1961 he was editor
of "motive" magazine.
In his undergraduate days he
'was National youth president
for four years director of two
youth convocations and manag-
ing editor for two national youth
periodicals a newspaper and a
daily devotional guide.
Dr. Jones has been a member
of the administration nnd fa-
culty of Garrett Thcologicnl
Seminary. He hnn also been on
the BtalT of the Division of
Higher Education of the Gen-
eral Board of Education of the
UMC.

Fundraising Effort
McCurdy School is a mission
school located in Espunoln New
Mexico and related to the Un-
ited Methodist Church. They
make valuable use of many re-
sources available to them; e g. n
recent purchase of a school bus
with green stamps which were
sent to them from all over the
United Stntcs. One of their pro-
jects now is to get enough trad-
ing stamps (any kind books or
loose stamps) to build a gym-
nasium. If you are interested in
making a contribution to this
project (cash or trading stamps)
you may send direct to McCurdy
or give to the Christian Life Of-
fice for them to mail in.
McCurdy has used Campbell's
Soup labels to redeem for
equipment for their school needs
for several years and Campbell's
Soup continues to help through
this project. Cnmbpcll's Soup
labels have provided cassette re-
corders listening centers re-
cord players filmstrip and
movie projectors overhead pro-
jectors reference books metric
teaching aids globes U. S. flags

Registration
Deadline Nears
Friday Will be the last day to
register to vote in tho November
4 presidential election. Students'
wishing to register should go to
the Taylor county courthouse
beforo 5 p.m. Fridy afternoon.
The Voter registration offico is
on the second floor west end of
the building.
Students wishing to vote ab-
sentee in tlioir hometowns
should mako sure that a ballot
will be sent to them In time.

Tour
Mexico

Students that were interested
in a learning experience encom-
paning sites of artistic literary
historical and educntional in-
terests were offered a "Study
Adventure in Mexico City".
Approximately 11 people
signed up for the course: 1 from
A.C.U. 1 from A.S.U. and 9
from McM. The group was led by
McMurry Language professor
Dr. Eugene B. Hastings.
The course begun with consul-
tations and orientations with
professors. The bus left Abilene
for San Antonio on May 15 and
from there the students caught
their flight to Mexico on Mex-
icana Airlines. Friday through
Sunday was their days to re-
lax visit the horse races
the Thoivcs Markots ballot
folklorico or similar entertain-
ment On Monday 19 tho group
visited the National University
of Mexico Chapultapec Park
and the Anthropological
Museum. Tuesday tho group vis-
ited tho Shrine of Guadalupe
and the pyramids. Wednesday
was another day to relax or to
tour Toluca Tula or Tepotzlan.
On Thursday tho group de-
parted arrived in San Antonio
on Mextcana Airlines and drove
back to Abilene. To finish up the
course the students were" re-
quired to write a papor present
n projet etc . . . This year the
course will consist of touring
several cities of Mexico.
