Fit For A New Year!
lyScttt Washburn
Fitness Edltpr
One of the top resolutions made at the start of every year is to get into belter shape whether by changing a person's diet or
exercise. For those of you that have made this resolution and are keeping it well done and keep up the good work!
However if you are struggling do not give up! It is better to get back on the wagon then to fall off completely. The sooner you
realize your mistakes and rectify them the sooner you can get back into shape. You will be thanking yourself next year when you can
make a different resolution like buying clothes that belter fit your new physique.
Here are some tips for getting back on Ihc getting-fit bandwagon as well as continuing your progress.
Take things in steps. Even ifyou think you can make faster progress you do not want to over-tax your mind body or schedule.
Write down your workout plan. This may seem like a waste of lime but it can be the best preparation for your mind. This may
include what time to start what you will be doing the duration the number of repetitionssets rest periods time you plan on
finishing etc.
Set a reasonable goal. Losing fifty pounds in two weeks is not possible and if it were it would not be healthy. Shoot for
something reasonable for the lime allocated and your body's composition.
Get right back on the plan. Ifyou happen to skip a day or two do not succumb to massive waves of guilt and give up. Leave it in
the past and get back to the schedule as soon as possible.
It is my hope that you achieve your fitness resolutions whether it is to lose weight or gain muscle. Stay healthy above all else!

Commercialism
By Rachelle Davis
StnfTWritcr
How much did you spend on Christmas
presents for your friends and family and per-
hnps for yourself? Did you max out at three hun-
dred dollars? What about one hundred and fifty?
Hmm? What about zero? -- Shame on you!
With the cost of tuition gas prices and per-
sonal expenditures many college students must
be gasping for financial air. Do we ever reflect
on the amount of money we spend during the
holidays and for other recognized American tra-
ditions? Christmas Day birthdays Valentine's
Day Easter anniversaries weddings showers
and Halloween all require a copious amount of
cash to cover the costs.
To reflect on the recent passing of
Christmas here are some statistics: On average
children between the ages of 12 and 19 receive an
average of $400 worth of gifts from parents for
Christmas each year. About $7000 is spent alto-
gether for one child's presents from the time that
child is born until he or she turns 21.
For a family with more than just a couple
of children it can become hectic to finance pres-
ents for every child. Although it does not take a
rocket scientist to come to that conclusion many
of us do tend to forget how much Americans con-
centrate on the commercial part of holidays and
occasions.
We buy Christmas presents for family and
friends and We buy birthday presents for close
friends and family members. If someone wants
to give their sweetheart a really good present for
Valentine's Day many times that person will fork
over the dough. Do not forget to get your mom
and dad gifts for Mother's Day and Father's Day!
On top of that there is candy. Christmas
Easter Valentine's Day and Halloween are popu-
lar holidays for candy. Are more random holidays
going to be created out of thin air? When will we
start celebrating George W. Bush Day?
I will vote for the presidential candidate
who promises to eliminate the pressure to buy
presents.
