Death of Mrs. Elmira Pierce
(from a newspaper clipping, name of paper not known, but was
probably The Waxahachie Daily Light or The Texas Christian
Advocate.)
Mrs. Elmira Pierce one of the oldest and most respected
citizens of Red Oak died Wednesday night September 29, at her
home in Red Oak. She had lived in Red Oak and community for
over sixty years. Having moved here from Kentucky when she
and her husband were first married. She had been a member of
the Methodist church since she was a child. At her death she
was 81 years old. Her oldest and only surviving child, Guy
Pierce of Waxahachie was with her when she passed away, her
other two sons having di#d some years ago. She numbered her
friends by her acquaintances. She was a good woman of the
old Southern type. Her funeral at the Methodist Church was
held by her pastor assisted by Revy. Josephus Lee of Perris,
her former pastor, and was attended by a large circle of
relatives and friends. She was buried by the side of her
husband and son in the Waxahachie cemetery. The passing of
this good woman removes one of the best citizens from our
midst. She died in the truth and we will know where to find
