W.D. High, retired WAXAHACHIE carpenter and grocer, has
been doing something that we should do. He has been going
through his "stuff."
While engaged in the operation, Mr. H. found an old
Waxahachie Enterprise clipping that gives an account of a
family reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wilson
at the falls on SOUTH PRONG in 1887.
Mr. High's mother, SallieWilson High, was one of the
daughters of Sanmuel Wilson and his wife, Jane.
The occasion for the reunion and barbecue was Mr. and
MIvrs. Wilson's fifty-fourth wedding anniversary.
The couple had been married in Canada in 1833 and had
come to Waxahachie in 1853. Mr. Wilson was born in Canada
in 18i4 and Mrs. Wilson, whose maiden name was Jane Malcolm,
was born in Scotland.
The trip to Waxahachie had been made by rail and water
via Cincinnati, New Orleans, Galveston and Houston, from
whence they journeyed by ox wagon to a location on South
Prong, near the spot where the barbecue was held.
Seven children of the couple who were living at the
time of the family celebration were Mrs. Iary Hilburn, Mrs.
Gracy Ann Barckley, Mrs. Debbie Alexander, Samuel Pierce
Wilson, Mrs. Sallie High, and William H. Wilson, all of
Waxahachie area, and Malcolm Wilson of Cleburne.
Also present at the reunion were 29 grandchildren, 17
great grandchildren and Mr. Wilson's relatives, Dr . Gracey
and family of Waxahachie and Captain Scott and daughter of
