The Corral
THE FINAL
I desire to tell of a terrible test
That brought distress to body and soul.
The end of the semester was that fatal day
When I fought with a final, and met my doom.
Full many a day I attended the class,
And few were the days I conceived to cut.
I studied til my body did reek with sweat
From the penning of many a ponderous paper,
And poring over volumes of black-bound books.
O wretched week before that test
When mind and soul were sorely stressed.
O fear-filled night before that test
When sleep 'scaped my restless body.
O mournful morning of that test
When breakfast bounded from my belly.
O horrible hour of that test
All frought with fear of the frightful foe.
With bated breath and shaking steps
I darkened the door of the scene of battle,
My lead-stick sharp and mind alert.
Sired by the gruesome grade-giver,
The long-feared foe swept down the row,
And all too quickly the conflict started.
I tangled and fought with the true and false,12
