that Ihcro had been no entry In the
money order cash hook sinio July
1881 and ns that might have
been expected thcro was a de

of more thau 700 ami in tho postal
accounts of moro than 100 There

facts Iho deficiency has been re-
funded to tho government under an
arrangement with nuo of the sure-
ties and ho attempts to excuso the
wretched condition of his olllco by
alleging that his deputy had entire
charge of the money ordor business m
well as other dotalls of tho olllce

of his plain duly in turning over tho
operations of his olllco to all assistant
without any pretext of tho sickness
