As a farming County Taken

The large quantity of rich hot
torn lands in tbid county together
with the facilites for irrigating
renders it quite probable that in
the near future cotton sugar and
tha cerials will bo produced so a
bundantly that our home market
will be supplied without failure
and u large Burpiusago of grain
and sugar will bo added to the an
nual shipments of cotton wool

farm That cotton can bo success-
fully grown in the upper country
has been demonstrated by many
successful planters If the average
yield is not quite equal to that of
weeds and is seldom in a con
that it can not bo worked and
when tho cotton has matured and
requires to be picked the heavy
dews so troublesome and dangerous
to health which invariably recurs
each morning in the lower counties
is seldom experienced here
Another advantngo is the ex
ing city of tho west and Brown
wood has nothing to help her a-
long but the enterprise and pluck
of her citizens But enterprise
and pluck will win
Eoger Q Mills was indeed right
when he said In Great Britian

Railroad Remarks
Our railrond committee is wide
awaka and keeping right up with
every crook and turn in railroad
Jmatters and alive to the interest
of San Saba It may be taken as-
a fact that when the said commit-
tee notifies San Saba that a cortain
amount must be laised as a bonus
that if the citizens raise tho said
amount tho railroad will come
This committee is working on
facts and figures and will not pes-
ter our citizens with raising a bo-
nus on mere possibilities
Tho citizens of Llano San Saba
Fredericksburg and San Antonio
fieePpfeltyjsHrVof getting the It
Yorth and Eio Grande but should
not relax any of their vigilance or
zeal to that end It is very much
to tho interest of Llano justnow to
jehthe road at this placo instead
of fllowing it to go west of here
Ii fiict it is tho most important
thing before the people of Llano
It may bo that tho road will build
a lino from Brownwood through
these towns to San Antonio and
after awhile build another line
from Brownwood in another direc-
tion Llano Times
Now that interest is awakened
in railroad matters our citizens
cotton requires lesg laBor fioald never cease work until we
ground is not so overrun m t H ° od K the Eio Grande
diliSS iTo4t 5mo here pull right on and
bufltfirtap to the Santa Fe It is
oiiyjBbout 17 miles and one Lott
bifilt a whole system with 5300 to
start on aud that was borrowed
THE LLANO EAILEOAD
WAH Miller one of the most
enterprising aud best known citi-
zen of Llano nrrived in San Anto
nio yesterday and will remain here
until the remainder of the commit
tee of which ho is a member ar
rives to confer with local business-
men in regard to offering encour
agements to the Fort Worth Bio
Grande Eailroad company to ex-
tend their lino through Llano and
Fredericksburg to some point on
the Kerrvillo branch of the San
Antonio and Aransas Aass He
states that the people of Llano are
very anxious that tho extension be
built as proposed and stand ready
to contribute their share towards
the enterprise The full commit
tee will reach here tho latter part
of the week and a meeting of the
Board of Trade and Chamber of
Commerce will probably be called
to take action on any proposition
that may be submitted S A Ex
press
Was San Saba represented at
that meeting If not why not
Now that there is a good pros
pect for San Saba to securo one of
the best railroads in the State and
that we have gone so far that the
road seems almost a fact Dont
stop pulling but work the harder
lest we may be seven years discuss
ing whose fault it was that we
missed the road Eight now is the
proper time to pull Everything
so far fairly indicates that we can
get the road if wo all continue to
work and pull together Dont sit
back and and wait for one or two
to do it all
Llano is In the swim Capi-
talists from all parts of the coun-
try are gathering there for tho pur-
pose of investments Propositions
are being made for the extension
of tho Fort Worth Eio Grande
road from Brownwood by San Saba
to Llano aud thence to San Anto-
nio that will doubtless be accepted
by the company Eight of way
and the grade below Llano already
complete with the exception of fif
teen milep together with a good
cash subscription is being offered
and the company indicate their
willingness to accept tho proposi
tion when made in due form
Hamilton Herald
It now seems probable that we
ctn get the railroad if we want it
All that is needed is a little sys
tematic working Our committee
will look well after tho plans and
arrangements and the citizens
generally should coutributo to the
help of the committo and be ready
to subscribe liberally when the
bonus committee calls
Editor Hagan of tho San Saba
News has pulled off his coat aud
rolled up his sleeves to build the
Eio Grando from Brownwood to
his city The town of San Saba
should barken to tho voice of the
News and give solid aid to its ef-
forts to improve town and county
