The special edition of the
Galveston News of September
1st was issued on time and in
completness it is decidedly the
best one gotten out by that en-
terprising paper. It contains a
comprehensive review of the
railway system cf the state as
well as condensed notices of all
the important shipping points
in the state showing the amount
of business done at each. This
edition of the News should be
spread broadcast over the land
asto shows by facts and figures
what Texas is and what she is
doing.
Philadelphia Times: There
is a considerable concern in
New York about the attitude
which senator Lapham is likely
"to assume toward ex-Senator
Conkling and it is supposed
that that this will have a great
'deal to do with the control of
the coming republican state
cenvention. Both factions of
the party are hob- claiming
Lapham but" it would not be
much'of a surprise if both Lap-
ham and Miller were safely
tucked away in Roscoe Conk-
ding's vest pocket in the course
ota tew weeks. They are not
too big.

being made against it by the

of wire needed in that state jn
the next ten years is estimated"
at 150000 tons a year and dif-
