Although the measles has been in
the city for several weeks a number
of which were reported as black
measles there have been no fatal
cases yet.
The movement on the part of the
oity council to establish an electric
light plant in Brenham is one which
will make all of the aldermen vary
popular among their constituents.
Two boys out hunting south of
town a day or two ago were ob-
served standing a few feet apart
snapping their guns at each other.
This is the way a- great many acci-
dents occur. Boys cannot be too
careful.
H. E. Shells- Esq. one of the
managers of the Confederate Home

f eof. jxasdolph the young gen
tleman frqm Huntsville who suc
ceeded Prof. ft. E. Binford as teach-
er of the schools out at Independ
ence has thrown up his job. He re-
signed on Friday evening and was
in tho city on Saturday on his way
back to Huntsville. There was no
trouble between him and the pa-
trons of the school as far as could
be learned and his resignation
seems to have been voluntary.
The "United States mail box here-
tofore mentioned was put up at the
depot on Friday afternoon by F. "W.
Schuerenberg for the convenience of
people who live over in the Fourth
ward and who do not caro to come
-all the way down to mail their letters
at the postoffice or to stand around
tho depot until train-time. Post-
master Dwyer deserves great credit
for the promptness with which he
responded to the request of citizens
for the box.
During the heavy rains of Sunday
and Monday the fish pond of Mr. T.
W. Morriss a mde and a half west
of the city was washed away and
Mr. Morriss had the misfortune to
lose all of his fine fish. He had just
recently received two thousand Ger-
man carps and put into tho pond
and these besides many othere were
all lost. Mr. Morriss took great
pride in his fish pond and had been
engaged for the past eight or ten
years in cultivating his fish and
stocking up the pond. His loss is
enough to dishearten anybody.
Mention was made of tho fact
that Messrs. Keichardt & Seelhorst
had purchased the other day a small
"ract of land out of tho old J. T.
Norris homestead near the com-
press for 8450. They have since
been offered 750 for it and refused
Their object in purchasing the land
was to erect a powder magazine on
it and to establish a tin factory and
it is for the purpose of arranging to
start the factory that Mr. Adolph
Seelhorst has gone to New York.

Ox last Monday Haubelt's band

out of his pockets and put it under
his pillow. Next day ho left for
home forgetting the money and
leaving it under tho pillow. He
mourned tho money as lost and was
a happy man Thursday evening
when he leceived an expiess en-v-lopo
containing the money. Ho
will advise all his friends who go to
Bolton to stop at the Central.
Tho Hoard of Trade.
Editor Banner: I beg to bo heard
while I make a suggestion which if
carried out will doubtless do good.
"We have just organized a Board of
Trade composed of many of our best
business men. This organization
will prove to bo a most potent factor
in promoting the growth of Bren-
ham and Washington countj-.

penty but Who Will hesitate to join
the Board of Trade for two reasons
1st. The admission fee is a little
more money than the average young
man just starting life can afford to
invest in this way.
2nd. They will not be anxious to
connect themselves with an organi-
zation composed of older men with
matured judgments. They would
be somewhat embarassed and would
hesitate perhaps to give an opinion
among a class of men so much older
and more experienced than them-
selves. Now then I suggest that this class
of young men having the welfare of
the city at heart and willing to work
and contribute according to their
ability to promote its growth and
development form themselves into
a young men's commercial club and
devise their own plans and schemes
to accomplish this greatly desired
end. "We have scores of broad
minded enterprising young men who
would render an organization of this
kind very effective.
Ninety per cent of all good re-
sults to every community and coun-
try comes from organized effort and
now that we are decidedly on the up
grade let us have organized concert
ed eliort all along the line ana my
word for it good and nothing but
good will come of it.
