Ham
Jftraston has Raised the Quarantine and
Trains are Running All Traces
of Panic Oyer.
Special to the Banneb:
Galveston Texas Oct. 12.
.At 8'o'clock .tonight the situation
is greatly relieved and the resi-
dents of the Island city are feel-
ing much better over the outlook
-than at any time since the an-
nouncement of. the fever's exist-
ence on Galveston island.
Three of the four cases
reported are convalescing and
the other is doing well.
One new case is reported today
by Dr. "West. The patient is a
fisherman named Isadore Mo-
;yeur and the fever is of the
usual mild form.
Houston has raised the quaran-
tine against Galveston and trains
are running on the Galveston
Houston iand Henderson railroad
on schedule time between the
two cities.
Fort Worth has refused to
quarantine against Galveston
and commerce between the
Panther City and the Island
City will not be inter-
rupted unless by intermediate
quarantines.
Business in all lines is brisk.
A full corps of hands are at work
on the docks.
The 'mail goes out tonight over
the Santa Fe.
All traces of panic are over
and Galveston people will remain
at home and attend to business
as if nothing out of the ordinary
iiad occurred. In fact outside
quarantines the are only re-
minder that a contagious disease
exists here.
Dr. R. M. Swearingen state
iiealth officer says the fever is
so mild that he should like to
Imng his family here to have it
sad become immune.

Cfcappell Hill Wants no Visitors From
This Place No Need of Guarding
The Waller County Line.
Dr. T. 0. Hynes received a
telephone message from Dr. A.
W. Toland Tuesday stating that
Chappell Hill had quarantined
against Brenham. No special
Treason was assigned for the ac-
tion. Dr. Hynes assured the
citizens of Chappell Hill that no
reason existed for such action as
po yellow fever exists here. His
remonstrances however were in
vain.
The health officer also received
a message from the county judge
oE Waller county stating that
there was no need of "Washington
county guarding the county line
as "Waller people were especially
alert on their borders.
Dr. Hynes later in the evening
requested Chappell Hill to send
Dr. Toland or some other physi-
cian here to investigate and
satisfy the people of the hill city
-thai no fever exists in Brenham.
He suggested that Dr. Ketchum
of Navasota would be. a good
selection.
A report comes from the
Gribble Springs community that
a wild or crazy man has been
loose in the neighborhood and
among the women and children is
creating some alarm. The man
hss been seen by several .parties
and once he was seen coming out
o a hay stack in which covered
ep in the straw had been sleeping.
"When last heard of the lunatic
was in ihe Prairie chapel neigh-
borhood still further north.

look of things in our store.
No mystery about it. It's simply buying
what people want and selling it for less than
they expect to pay. This is what has built
this business to its present- large proportions.

We are saved by hope and
slain by fear. We fear to trust
God lest his promise fail we
fear to believe that tomorrow
will bring aught but pain and
tribulation and distress. There
is a call for men and women who
have a robust faith and a robust
courage ; people who believe in
God and believe in themselves
and are ready to exercise their
talents and accomplish their
duty in the face of a snarling
sniveling and ridiculing age
Too many of us are under this
distressing bondage of feafr we
fear to stand counter to the edict
of popular opinion and popular
ways. It is prudent to have re-
gard to' public esteem but it is
irrational and wicked to let the
public pulse measure the time of
our own heart beats. The wise
seaman has regard to the winds
and tides and notes their direc-
Ition; ho employes those which
favor him and avoids those
which oppose- him but at mid-
night and dawn under cloud and
sun he guides his stately ship
not by the winds and tides which
are ever shifting but by the
everlasting stars. Popular opin-
ion penny wit beset the path-
way of every earnest Christian.
There are some who hearing
puny insolent barks of ridicule ;
think that a lion roare. Let us
not tremble let ua not forsake
the highways of faith and take to
the underbrush of conventional
living and convenience. Let us
keep on our course let us hold
fast our crown let us guide our
footsteps not by the jack lan-
terns of popular thought but let
us guide them by the stars.
God is living; He is watchine-r
He is helping. Let us believe
Him." Ram's Horn.
