W 1930-Bertie Bow (Bristow) Long, BA, recently
celebrated her 90th birthday. She writes that she is very
grateful for the good health and wonderful life God has
given her. Bertie Bow was an active member of First
Baptist Church of Lubbock for over 50 years, 39 of
which she taught Sunday School to nine-year olds. She
was also the first docent at the Texas Tech Museum
(1948-1990). Her daughter, Vinnie Boone, is an HSU
ex, and her grandson, Rick Logsdon, graduated in
1995. In 1990, Bertie Bow moved to Colorado Springs
to be near her oldest daughter, Georgina. Her address is
12205 Gunstock Dr., #G6, Colorado Springs, CO 80921.
1935-Glen McLaughlin, BA, was recently honored
by the First Baptist Church of Austin for 50 years of
continuous service as a Sunday school teacher. He
currently teaches the Concordant class with
attendance of about 50 of the oldest persons in the
church, the fastest growing class in the entire church.
Glen retired from the Texas Dept. of Public Safety after
38 years. He served as the executive secretary of the
Texas Police Assn. over 20 years. Glen and his wife,

1935-Jo Beth (Horton) Winter, ex, makes her
home at The Wilderness #62, Kerrville, TX 78028. She
recently sent the University a copy of a booklet that
featured the Simmons University campus in 1929.1937/76-Dr. Thurman Morrison, BM/HonD,
was the subject of a feature article in the religion
section of the Abilene Reporter-News upon his
retirement from Brookhollow Christian Church,
where he had been organist since 1949. Dr. Morrison
retired from his position as professor of music history
and piano at HSU in 1981. He makes his home at 1426
Meadowbrook, Abilene, TX 79603; (915) 672-8850.
1940s
1940/83-Dr. T. W. (Jack) Dean, BA/HonD, and
his wife, Frances, BA/MA '40/'76, celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary this past year. He was the
dean of the School of Music from 1967 until his
retirement in 1981. They reside at 1250 E. North 10th
St., Abilene, TX 79601; (915) 676-0474.
W' 1942-Betty (McIntosh) Schumann, BM, and
husband, Herb, celebrated their 56th wedding
anniversary on June 5, 1999. They have three grown
children and five grandchildren. Address them at 352

1943-Vernis (Cathey) Driskell, ex, is serving in
children's evangelism at Heights First Baptist Church,
an inner city congregation in Houston. She has been
a Mission Service Corps volunteer, North American
Mission Board, for 13 years. She resides at 800
