In the table below te first column.shows
scholastic population of Texas counties for
1950, as taken by the -State Department of
Education, and the second column shows the
comparable scholastic census for the school
year, 1956-57. The fourth column shows the
census of the entre population by counties as
taken In April, 1950. The fifth 'column Shows
what the total might be in 1957 as calculated
by the ratio of increase, or loss, of scholastic
population between. 1950 and 1956-57. The
third column total population by the census
of 1940, is given only'to aid In showing the
trend of total population In-the decade prior
to the 5-year period ffbr which the calculation
is made on basis of scholastic population.
Trend of scholastic population is not always
an accurate indication of trend of total popu-
lation, and. somewhat different -figures on
county population for 1957 are given else-
where in this volume.-(See index.) However,
scholastic population ; and total population
generally run roughly parallel.'
