My dear Sir seeing the influence you have with the presedent
of Mexico (Santanna) I have made bold to address you in behalf
of my unfortunate son (Friendly Grubbs) who is now S& has been
a prisoner in the castle of Periote in Mexico since the battle of Mire
about two yars sins comonly called Fisher Expedition the circum-
stances attending that unfortunate affair I need not now relate to
you for I supose they are fresh in your memory.
Now sir my object is to request you to exert your influence with
the Executive officer of that government for the release of my son.
I have try various ways but have not be able to effect any thing
as yet. his brother has been to see him this spring &e has just returned
with out seeing him he could do nothing to relive him but
leave means with the American consul to suply his wants as cir-
cumstance required. he stated in a letter to his brother that his
long confinement had nearly exhausted his constitution and destroyed
his health. If he was not released soon he probably never should
see him.
If you can do anything that will effect my sons release you will
confer a lasting obligation on both the father & son S& their friends.
