developed and the field notes grew bulkier, the secretary typed
the overflow on a piece of onionskin paper and pasted it over
the old notes. As the rush grew worse she typed new information
over the old notes already entered. Eventually it took a crew
of clerks two solid months from eight in the morning until
eleven at night to straighten out the chaos."l Yet East Texas is
presently so peaceful it is hard to imagine the chaos of the oil
boom only thirty years ago.
