Notes and Documents

Waddy Thompson, minister of the United States, who saved us from
indiscriminate massacre at the Rancho Salado in Mexico, by his timely
intervention in our favor with the Government of Mexico; to the
Hon. Wilson Shannon, minister from the United States, who visited
us in prison on his way to the Capitol, and through exertions and
influence obtained our liberation on the 16th of September, 1843
[1844]; to Mr. Green, charge from the United States, for his sympathy
in our favor; and to the English, French, German and Spanish Min-
isters, who ever sympathized with us, and contributed to the amelio-
ration of our sufferings: Therefore,
Be it further resolved, That we, a portion of the Mier Prisoners,
assembled at the town of La Grange, for the purpose of interring the
bones of our decimated companions, for ourselves and on behalf of
our companions, embrace the present opportunity to tender our
thanks and gratitude to the relations of the old Hero, and to all
the gentlemen above mentioned, and to all others who have aided
us in our misfortunes.
Wm Ryon, President
Claudius Buster, Sec'y.
