Driskill Hotel in Austin. The eleven-session program, which was put
together by Program Chairman Ben Procter and his committee of
David Vigness, A. Ray Stephens, Jim Renberg, and Richard Santos,
was the largest in the Association's history. The program set a new
standard for variety of content and wide participation. The sessions
were well-attended.
The smooth running operations of the meeting were especially due
to staff members Nancy Bryant, Suann Waight, Candy O'Keefe, and
Randy Paul.
The Executive Council, at its meeting on Thursday evening, May
8, passed several important resolutions that bear directly on the affairs
of the Association. A resolution was passed authorizing the president
to appoint a finance committee of three members with overlapping
terms, to work with the advice of the appropriate financial authorities
to invest the funds of the Association. The Council repealed the reso-
lution, adopted in 1948, governing the finances of the Association
(see Quarterly, Vol. LII, 97-98).
The Council also passed a resolution that will permit the income
from the investments of the Publication Fund to be used, if needed,
for the general purposes of the Association. This will allow the Asso-
ciation to continue its expanding program of activities.
Provision was made by the Council to set up a budget committee
to allocate funds for the Association's work on an annual basis.
At the business meeting following the Friday luncheon, the follow-
ing officers were elected for the year 1969-197o:
President: Rupert N. Richardson.
Vice-Presidents: Cooper K. Ragan, Dorman H. Winfrey, Roger N.
Conger, and Anne Brindley.
Dr. Rupert N. Richardson of Hardin-Simmons University and dean
of Texas historians, is a long-time member and fellow of the Associa-
tion. Cooper K. Ragan, a Houston attorney and book collector, is the
author of several articles on Texas. Dorman H. Winfrey, director of
the Texas State Library, has authored several books and numerous
articles on Texas history. Roger N. Conger, former mayor of Waco,
is an authority on the history of that Brazos River city. Anne Brindley
