The Texas General Land Office has issued a new surface map of the
state featuring rare and endangered plants and animals. Titled The
Natural Heritage of Texas and measuring 54" X 55", the map illustrates
the state's physiography, vegetation regions, river systems, and geo-
graphic features, as well as major political boundaries, county seats,
and cities with a population of 5,000 or more. The map also contains
thirty-one full-color illustrations of rare plants and animals, drawn by
Austin artists David Griffin, Sally Hickman, Hal Irby, Molly Ogorzaly,
Terry Powell, Michael Sullivan, and Priscilla Vogt. The map itself was
designed by Austin cartographer Rick Hubbard. A limited edition of
500 numbered and signed copies is available for $250 per map ($15.30
sales tax). The regular edition sells for $125 per map ($7.65 sales tax),
or $50 each for orders of ten or more ($3.06 sales tax). Nonprofit, tax-
exempt organizations may order any quantity of the regular edition for
