In 1993 the TSHA Annual Meeting will be back in Houston for the
first time in a decade. Put March 4-6, 1993, on your calendar now so
that you will be ready to join us for our usual three days of history, auc-
tions, special speakers and events, and a reunion with your fellow afi-
cionados of Texas and Texana.
"The Influence of Spain on the Texas Legal System," a symposium
that will be held on June 24 in Corpus Christi, is part of the 1992 State
Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, June 23-27, 1992. Scholars in the fields
of law and history, as well as distinguished foreign scholars from Mex-
ico and Spain, will be presenting papers at a seminar and colloquium
forum. Lawyers and legal history scholars will discuss the Spanish ori-
gins of Texas water, matrimonial, property, and homestead laws. For

The Bureau of Land Management, in partnership with the Univer-
sity of Arizona, the University of New Mexico, and other federal agen-
cies, is planning a Quincentennial commemorative event consisting of a
one-day symposium in Tucson, a five-day bus tour, and a two-day clos-
ing symposium in New Mexico. "A Meeting of Two Worlds" takes place
October 3-9, 1992, and will focus on Spanish exploration of the South-
west and the contributions of the Spanish and Native American peoples
to the cultural heritage enjoyed in the Southwest today. For further in-

The University of Texas at Austin has created the Center for Ameri-
can History, a new unit of the General Libraries with administrative re-
sponsibility for special collections and activities relating to American
history. The new center consolidates and makes more visible the uni-
versity's extensive holdings documenting the historical development
of the United States, including collections housed in the Eugene C.
Barker Texas History Center, the University Archives, and the Sam
