CATTLE TICK INFESTATION.
Fever tick eradication work was done by
the State Livestock Sanitary Commission in
twenty-two counties during 1940. and on Jan
1, 1941, there were seventeen counties in
which livestock were held in quarantine. in
some degree. There was a serious outbreak
.during 1940 in Calhoun County which hadbeen free of quarantine sixteen years. Prin-
cipal quarantined herds at the end of 1940
were in Harris, Galveston, Brazoria, Jackson
Victoria, DeWitt, Calhoun, Refugio and Webb
Counties. A systematic quarantine is main-
tainmed along the Rio Grande from Del Rio
to the Gulf It is proposed to build a border
fence to prevent the entry into Texas of dis-
eased cattle and predatory animals The cattle
or "fever" tick originally infested all of
Texas except the Trans-Pecos and the High
Plains, but has been eradicated except in the
small areas mentioned aboxe by systematic
'dipping" under supervision of the State
Lip estock Sanitary CommissionLivestock on Farms, U.S., and States.
