*Caddo Lake State Park: 35,432 acres, 15
miles northeast of Marshall and one mile west
of Karnack on Texas Highway 43. Boating,
fishing, cabin area, dining room, dance ter-
race and picnicking. Area of this park is
largely on the surface of Caddo Lake, larg-
est natural body of water in Texas, extend-
ing across the state line into Louislana. Pine
timber country, with cypress in lake. (See

*Cleburne State Park: 503 acres, 12 miles
southwest of Cleburne on Texas Highway

Daingerfield State Park: 580 acres. 2 miles

Navasota River, 7 miles south of Mexia on
Texas Highway 14. Restored historic old
fort, site of Indian massacre Boating, fish-
ing, dining room, dance terrace, swimming,
picnicking, camping and playground equip-

Frio State Park: 51 acres on Frio River
ten miles south of Pearsall on U S Highway
81. Fishing, swimming, picnicking.
John Garner State Park: 640 acres on Frio
Rixer, 26 miles north of Uvalde on U S High-
w+ay 83 Cabin area, dining room, dance ter-
race, camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking
and pla\ ground equipment. Affords recreation
for soldiers fi om near-by Army airfields and
camps. In the beautiful mountainous coun-
try where thq Edwards Plateau drops to the
Coastal Plains. Many springs and beautiful
perennially flowing streams.
Goose Island State Park: 157 acres on Co-
pano Bay 12 miles northeast of Rockport on
Texas Highway 35 Boating, sea fishing,
camping and picnicking Giant live oak, one
of largest in state, w ith branches spreading
oxer 6,000 sq. ft, of ground.
*Huntsville State Park: Park under con-
struction, 2,044 acres, 6 miles south of Hunts-
xi lle on U.S. Highway 75. In the East Texas
pine area. Old city of Huntsville has many
points of historic interest.
*Inks Lake State'Park: 1,194 acres on east
shore of Inks Lake below Lake Buchanan, on
Colorado River, 10 miles west of Burnet on
Texas Highway 29. Connected by scenicdrive with Longhorn Cavern. Boating, fish-
ing, dance terrace, camping and picnicking

*Jim Hogg State Park: Historical area
The home of Gov. James Stephen Hogg, 177
acres, 2 miles northeast of Rusk, off U S
Highway 84. To be developed after the war
*Kerrville State Park: 500 acres, on Guada-
lupe River, 3 miles southeast of Kerrville on
Texas Highway 16. Fishing, picnicking and
camping. In the heart of the Hill Country
of Southwest Texas with its beautiful streams,
timbered mountains and wild game.
Lake Corpus Christi State Park: 12,381
acres on Nueces River, 4 miles southwest of
Mathis on U.S. Highway 96. Boating, fish-
ing, camping, picnicking and dance terrace.
Lockhart State Park: 352 acres 2 miles
southwest of Lockhart and west of Texas
Highway 29. Picnicking. lookout, dance ter-
race, golfing, swimming. Army air naviga-
tion school near by.
Longhorn Cavern State Park: 550 acres. 11
miles southwest of Burnet on U S. Highway
281. Texas' largest underground cavern In-
direct lighting. Picnicking facilities on the
surface. Operated by State Parks Board,
admission charge. Connected by scenic drive
with Inks Lake State Park.
MacKenzie State Park: 548 acres in city
of Lubbock on U S. Highways 82, 62 and 87
Golfing, swimming, picnicking and dance ter-
race. Army airfields near by.
Meridian State Park: 542 acres in the
Bosque Valley, 3 miles southwest of Meridian
on Texas Highway 22. Boating, camping,
fishing, fishermen's barracks, picnicking and
dance terrace.
Mineral Wells State Park: 70 acres, at
north city limits of Mineral Wells on U S
HIghway 281. Camp Wolters near by. Pic-
nicking and camping facilities.
Mother Neff State Park: 256 acres, on
Leon River, 8 miles southwest of McGregor
on county road. Oldest of Texas State Parks
Has stone pavilion, refectory and picnicking
facilities. Camp Hood and Army flying
schools near by.
*Normangee State Park: 504 acres, 6 miles
west of Normangee on the old San Antonio
road. Boating, fishing, camping, cabin area
and picnicking.
Palmetto State Park: 320 acres, on San
Marcos River, 7 miles southeast of Luling and
twelve miles northwest of Gonzales on Texas
Highway 29. Unusual tropical plants in Pal-
metto swamps. The unusual vegetation of
this region makes it one of the several "plant
life islands" of Texas. (See p 152 ) Con-
cession building, dance terrace and picnick-
ing. (See illustration, p. 385.)
*Palo Duro Canyon State Park: 15,103
acres, 12 miles east of Canyon on Texas High-
way 217. Camping, scenic drive, cabin area,
lookout, concession building and picnicking

near by. This park is located in the majestic
Palo Duro Canyon, formed by the cutting of
a fork of the Red River into the High Plains

*Possum Kingdom State Park: Park under
construction, 6,969 acres on Possum Kingdom
Lake on Brazos River. East side 25 miles
from Graham and Mineral Wells. West side
