LAWS PASSED BY THE TWELFTH LEGISLATURE.
GENERAL LAWs--FIRST SES5IOT, 1871.
CHAPTER 1. Appropriates $75,000 together with all unexpended balances
of previous appropriations, for the mileage and per diem of members and offi-
cers of the Legislature.
CHAP. 2. Discontinues the Criminal Court of San Antonio, transferring
all its business to the District Court of Bexar county.
CHAP. 3. Amends the Act dividing the State into Judicial Districts, by
changing the 33d district to embrace the counties of Limestone, Falls and
McLennan, and the 85th district to embrace the counties of Bosque, Hill and
Navarro.
CHAP. 4. Amends the Aet fixing the times for holding the Districts Courts
by changing the 22d section, so as to make the time for holding the court in
Colorado county the first Monday in October, February and June, and to con-
tinue four weeks; in Fort Bend county first Monday in November, March
and July, and to continue three weeks; and in the county of Austin the
fourth Monday in November, March and July, and to continue until the busi-
ness is disposed of.
CHAP. 5. Amends the D!strict Court Act, changing the 34th section so
that the courts of the Thirty-third District shall be held in Limestone county
on the second Monday in February, June and October, and to continue three
weeks; in Falls county on the fourth Monday after the second Monday in
February, June and October, and may continue four weeks; in McLennan
county on the eighth Monday after the second Monday in February, June
and October, and may continue five weeks. The 36th section of the same Act
is amended to make the courts of the Thirty-fifth District to be held in Bosque
county on the first Monday in February, June and October, and may continue
two weeks; in Hill county on the third Monday in February, June and Octo-
ber, and may continue three weeks; in Navarro county on the second Monday
in March, July and November, and may continue four weeks.
CHAP. 6. Defines the lnes of Comal county as follows: From the mouth -
of Balcone's creek, on the Cibolo river, down the Cibolo to the lower line of
Michele's League No. 114, thence to the south-west corner of survey No. 21,
thence with the south line of said league N. 65 O E. toitslower corner on the
Guadalupe, thence N. 50 O E. 7 miles, thence N. 14 O W. to Hays county line,
thence with that line to corner of Blanco county, thence with this line of
Blanco county to the beginning.
CHAP. 7. Authorizes the Governor to employ an extra c'erk at a salary of
$1500, and appropriates that amount to pay him.
CHAP. 8. Appropriates $1000 to meet expenses in defending the suit
brought by the heirs of John C. Clark, deceased.
CHAP. 9. Amends 19th section of the District Court Act, requiring the
courts of the Eighteenth District to be held in Brazoria county on the first
Monday in October, January and May, and may continue three weeks; in
Galveston county on the last Monday in November, February and June, and
may continue till the business is disposed of. Also amends 20th section, so as
to require the courts of the Nineteenth District to be held in Montgomery
county on the second Monday in September and first Monday in February
and June, and may continue three weeks; in Harris county on the last Mon-
day in October, March and July, and may continue till the business is dis-
posed of, and process heretofore returnable on the first Monday in March is
now returnable on the last Monday in March.
CHAP. 10. Authorizes all railroad companies to change the gauge of their
