It seems like there's always a time when a person has
to be congratulated.
Maybe it's for getting married, winning first prize, or
simply for being born.
Whatever the occasion there is always the problem of
expressing adequately those feelings of friendship and good
will.
Send an expensive gift? Tktfr migjtt be appropriate at
times.
Buy a fancy card? If the occasion calls for it.
We believe the best way to express feelings is to say
it straight from the heart; that way the person will know
you really mean it
Therefore we want to congratulate someone . . . some-
one who is very well known around Howard Payne.
His famous gestures and favorite phrases "militant min-
ority" are familiar to all. -
His words of wisdom and wit are eagerly absorbed by
students and faculty alike in the Wednesday chapel periods.
This special someone is an ordinary human being, just
like us.
He doesn't have to put on airs to make his words effec-
tive.
All he needs do is continue to carry out the fine Chris-
tian example he has set before us.
Therefore we feel no flowery phrases or expensive gifts
are in order for us to adequately express our message to him
on this, his special day.
May we simply say, "Happy Birthday, Dr. Guy D.
Newman, and many, many more."
