Kappa Delta Pi will hold a
tea and initiation ceremony
Tuesday, Feb. 27, 6:30 p. m. in
Todd Hall, Fleming Center of
Religion. All new initiates are
invited to be present, Linda
Jones, secretary of the organ-
ization, said.
National Defense Student
Loans are ready to be signed
in the office of Student, Aid,
Spencer Lewis, director of stu-
dent aid, said.

The Merit System Council
Competitive Examination will
be held Saturday, March 23, in
Brownwood. Further informa-
tion may be obtained from
Mrs. Grace Elsey, dean of stu-
dents, on time and place the
exam will be held.
The single position is for an,
information specialist II in the
Texas Employment Commis-
sion, Austin. This is the only
position open at this time. Sal-
ary pay ranges from $786 to
$936 per month.
Application deadline for thej
March 23 examination is March
15. Applications received after
this deadline will not be con-
sidered.

Speaking on the subject of
"What Public Relations is All
About," will be John Bloakas,
director of public relations
for the Southern Baptist An-
nuity Board, Dallas; Dave Chea-
vans, Baylor University PR
director, Waco and Mrs. Mar-
jorie Saunders, with the Bay-
lor Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. R. C. Campbell, president
of Buckner Benevolences, Dal-
las, and Tom Parrish, director of
development at Baylor, Waco,
will discuss how public rela-
tions tie into the overall effort
of an institution.
Following the Tuesday lun-
cheon at the college, the vis-
itors will attend a case study
session on the campus, during
which time a number of pub-
lic relations problems will be
discussed.
Wednesday morning's ses-
sions will be at Riverside and
will feature Charles Richard-
son, of the Baptist General
Convention of Texas staff, Dal-
las, and a panel composed of
Bill Harlan of Baylor, Waco,
and Bob Ravins, director of
development at Howard Payne.
Richardson will speak on
sources of denominational help
in a public relations program,
and Harlan and Havins will dis-
cuss how to conduct local sus-
taining drives.
The annual business meeting
is scheduled for Wednesday
morning, followed by the
awards luncheon Wednesday
noon.
Taylor Henley, director of
public relations at Baptist Me-
morials Geriatric Hospital, San
Angelo, is president-elect of
the organisation. Serving as
vice presidents are Havins and
Richardson. Martha Ueckert, of
the Hardin-Simmons PR office,
Abilene, is secretary treasurer.

Merchant Head Music Drive
Dr. George Baker, head of
the Department of Music at
Howard Payne * College, andj
Richard C. Merchant, at CPA,
and who is a partner with Cond-
ley Morphew & Co., will serve
as chairman and co-chairman
for the annual Brownwood Civic
Music Association membership
drive.
Announcement was made by
0. L. Dawson, long time presi-
dent of the organization, which
is rapidly gaining national rec-
ognition among artists' circles
for its activities in the size of
a city like Brownwood.
Dr. Baker, who has been as-
sociated with HPC since 1962,
holds degrees from Boston Uni-
versity and George Peabody
College.
Merchant obtained his BBA
degree from Hardin-Simmons
University where he also did
his graduate work.

Country Club, Merchant is also

8:30 a.m., April 6, and should
finish at approximately 12:15
p.m., Mrs. Elsey said.
The teaching area examina-
tions will begin at 1:30 p.m.
and should finish at approxi-
mately 4:15 p.m., according to
the time schedule for these ex-
aminations set up by Educa-
tional Testing Service.

cific theatre with the Navy
during World War II. Before
coming to Brownwood some
five years ago, he was promi-

munity affairs in Abilene, and
he is a member of the First
Baptist Church here.

ant, Miss Dorothy Mcintosh
and Gene Porter, vice presi
dents; Gilbert N. Harrison,
treasurer; and Mrs. D. R.
Franks, Jr., secretary.
Next concerts to be sponsor-
ed by the organization will be
by the Munich Chamber Orches-
tra, Saturdsay, March 9, at 8
p.m„ and baritone William War-
field, Sunday, March 24, 2i:30
p.m. Both performances will be
staged in the Mims Auditorium

"We are delighted," Dawson
said, "to have men of the cali-
ber of Dr. Baker and Mr. Mer-
chant to head up our new
drive.
"With them heading up this
project and with the help that
we get from our other officers,
we feel sure that we will reach
a new high in our member™
ship."
Merchant said that either
five or six division chairmen
will be named shortly. Division
chairmen will in turn, select
group captains.
Merchant 'also said that' an
out-of-town division chairman
would also be named. "Many of
our members," he said, "come
from Brady, San Saba, Santa
Anna, Coleman, Comanche,
Bangs, Goldthwaite, Blanket,
Zephyr, May and other sur-
rounding towns."

Monday in chapel, Dr. Z. T.
Huff, former dean at Howard
Payne, will talk to students
about the "Doors" of life and
opportunity and the students'
utilization of these different
doors.
Wednesday, Dr. Guy D. New-
man, president of Howard
Payne, will address the student
body.
Friday, a student political
rally will be held in complete
convention style. Candidates
for political offices will give
speeches on office qualificar
tions. .

WINNING PHOTO—Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Wright display
Wright's photo entitled "String of Pearls, which won gold
star of exhibition honors at the current Dallas convention of
Texas Professional Photographer's Assn. The picture of Pam
Reynolds, was the only entry by Wright's studio and was
one of the about 35 from over the state receiving gold star
recognition.
