For Use at Howard Payne
The proposal fof certain
courses to be taken under a
pass-fail option has been
passed by the Academic Coun-
cil and the faculty and will
become effective July 1, ac-
cording to Dr. Henry C. Lind-
sey, vice president for aca-
demic affairs.
The academic affairs office
released the text of the ap-
proved proposal as follows:
"The pass-fail grading option
as used at Howard Payne Col-
lege is intended to encourage
the student to broaden his
education by taking courses
for enrichment without un-
due concern for the grade and
its effect upon his overall
honor point average. The op-
tion is permitted for any
elective taken during the
junior and/or senior years,
provided the student has a
2.5 average.
"To select the p^ss-fail op-
tion, the student must submit
a form, signed by. the student
and his faculty advisor, stat-
ing that he wishes the pass-
fail option in lieu of a letter
grade, ABCDF. This form
must-be presented to the Reg-
istrar prior to registration in
the course and the option can-
not be changed after registra-
tion. v. '
"A course taken as a pass-
fail option shall have no ef-
fect upon the grade point av-
erage, whether passed or
failed."
Dr. Lindsey further ex-
plained that if the course is
passed, the student would re-
ceive credit for the course as
outlined in the catalogue. He
also stated that elective sub-
jecs deperid on the degree
plan of the individual and are
subect to the approval of the
faculty advisor- \
The system is designed to
encourage attainment of a
higher grade point average,
so that as a junior or senior
the student may diversify his
the) grade and its effect on
his average.
Dr. Lindsey also stated that
the faculty and administra-
tion are enthusiastic about the
new system and are looking
for good results when it is
placed in effect.
Scouts Hold OA Banquet
In Sid Richardson Hall
For the second time this
semester, Howard Payne Col-
lege will host the Comanche
Trail Council of the Boy
Scouts of America on campus.
Friday, , December 18, at
7:30 p,m., in the Gold Room
of Sid Richardson Hall, the
Otena Lodge of the Order of
the Arrow will hold its an-
nual Christmas banquet. The
Order of the Arrow is an
honor campers society and a
program extension of the
BSA.
According to Ernie Myer,
lodge chief, the banquet is
being held in Richardson Hall
because of its central location
in the eight-cOunty council
area and due to the fact that
many members expressed fav-
orable opinions towards HPC,
since the dinner was held here
last year.
This banquet marks the last
such affair that will be held
on campus by any organiza-
tion this semester.
The Scouts were previously
on campus in September for
a training weekend. That ses-
sion was termed as a suc-
cess by Scout executive Har-
old DeHon.
According to DeHon, "How-
ard Payne College is one of the
true friends of Scouting in the
Comanche Trail Council. Many
faculty and administrators are
, active in Scouting, and the
College has always been gen-
erous in the support it has
given through use of facilities
and the help of arious or-
ganizations. We are truly
grateful for this institution."
