Gilbert Dickens of the
Canadian Pharmacy Family
Center has announced that he
has appointed Sam Scroggins to
assume the responsibilities of
1978 Camp Chairman. Dickens
is Chairman of the Canadian
Salvation Army Service Unit.
Scroggins will be in charge of
selecting 3 boys from ages 8 to
14 to attend the Salvation
Army's Camp Hoblitzelle at
Midlothian July 916.

Midshipman Dan Cloyd, son

be Company Commander of the
Fourth Company for the
academic year 1978 79, and in
addition to the command honor,
will march at the head of his
company into the stadium at all
football parries and at the
Army-Navy game in Philadel-
phia next fall, "at which time,"
his mother, Paula Cloyd writes,
"they will announce his name
and his home town of Canadian,
Texas, over the loud speaker."
Dan will spend part of this
summer aboard an aircraft
carrier in the Mediterranean,
and then will return to the
Academy where he will be a
squad leader training the new
plebes of the Class of 1982.
Commander and Mrs. David
Clovd and their family plan to
be in Canadian at the Christmas
season.
Dan is a grandson fo the E.R.
Cloyds of Canadian.
Libby Barker visited her son,
Jim, and his family in Dalhart
during the weekend. On
Monday she and Mary
Wizabet h Jackson were in
Amarilln where Mrs. Barker
fended a library meeting and
Mrs. Jackson worked on
genealogy. Mrs. Barker will
leave tomorrow for El Paso
where she will vacation with
"son, Tom, and his family for
a week.

who would not otherwise get a
chance to attend a summer
camp. The camp chairman is
responsible for selecting the
boys. The Service Unit
furnished them with any
clothing, toiletries or other
items they might need,
arranging medical examina-
tions and providing them with
$5.00 in cash. It also arranges
transportation to and from the
camp for them.
The Canadian Service Unit
guarantees local expenses in
getting the boys ready. The
Salvation Army Texas Division
pays all costs of the camp itself,
which offers swimming, hiking,
athletic contests and many
group activities in each of four
one-week sessions.
Fried chicken served family-
style on Friday nights at The
Sage.
Cindy Gober

at TWU
Texas Woman's University
held its annual Spring Com-
mencement Saturday, May 13,
awarding more than 800
degrees, including 21 doctoral
degrees.
Recipients and their major
fields of study included Cynthia
Lnvee Neal Gober of Canadian,
who was awarded a Master of
Library Science degree.
