Down the winding track a train
pounded its way to the next station. It was a
large powerful train whose maroon and black
cars were pulled by a steam engine whose
front stuck out like the chest of a proud black
bull. The massive engine set the beat for the
rest of the percussion section behind it, so
prominent that everyone on the train moved,
talked, thought, and breathed with the rhythm.
Douglas walked uneasily down the
rocking corridor to the dining Car. He had a
problem with motion sickness and tried to
concentrate on anything that would prevent
him from throwing up. His mind traversed
back and forth through various topics, but
none took hold, and Douglas found himself
becoming more nauseous by the minute.
He finally reached the opening be-
tween the passenger car and the dining car
and hesitated for a long time. He could see
the tracks whooshing by and the connector
between the two cars wobbling fiercely. He
swallowed hard and gingerly stepped one foot
over to the dinning car platform. He6
