PLOWBOYSLOSE

ONE POINT LOSE
Chihuahua Y.M.C.A. Team
Invites Plowboys To Vis-
it Old Mexico Next Year
The John Tarleton Plowboys.
who played under the name of tli'-1
"Stephenville All-Stars," were bare-
ly nosed out by th<> Chihuahua Y.
M. C. A. basketeers, 37-3P>, in the
A. A. U. basketball tou-. nament 1
h-eld in El Paso last week. The
game Was the best that has beet:
played in El Paso for several sea-
sons.
The largest crowd ever to turn
out in the gymnasium of the Tex-
as School of Mines saw th-? Tarle-
ton cagers go flown before tli<-
snappy Chihuahuans, three of the
Plowboys being former El Paso
cagers.
Playing- a team that won third
place in the World Olympics in
Germany last year, the All-Star4,
or the Piowboyft. exhibited a sup-
erior type of basket-ball for college
players. With only 40 seconds to
play, the Tarleton boys were lead-
ing 3(5-36, and for some reason,
accidentia or probably purposely,
the Mexican forward fouled Paul
McConachic, who bad the ball. Mr-
C'onachie missed the free pitch, and
the Chihuahitans, taking the hall
from, the backboard, swiftly travel-
ed to their end of the court and
looped a long field goal, the score
now being ZrI-'Mi.
Then with 5 seconds to play,
Tinker, standing- in opponents'
court zone, fired a Ions' shot at
the basket. The ball went in tho
basket, came out rolled around the
hoop, and gently but unluckily fell
off as the game ended.
The Chihuauhans were a clean-
fig-htittg, swift playing sports. They
lidmired the playing and the sports-
manship of the Plowboys, who
were probably the first team that
ever held their opponents under a
score of 60 points. The purple anil
white suits, and especially the
stockings that the Tnrletonites
wore, won the praise of the V. M.
C. A. champions. It seems that
they had never seen basketball
players vearingf stocking-* before.
Tho Plowboys were invited to
go to Chihuahua and play a three-
game series with the locals. Tra vel -
