Tarleton's Annie Oakley drives
fifteen miles daily to school, stud-
ies agriculture, welds, shoots, and
Bides.
Gay Field, special agriculture
student from Fort Sumner, New
Mexico, is the only female agricul-
tural major at Tarleton State Col-
lege. Gay precently is living with
Rev, and Mrs, Stanley White of
Alexander.
, ^ Began Horsemanship Early
"I; was riding- a horse with my
father while I was still wearing
. diapers, and was shooting- by the
time I was ten years., old," she
relates.
One can currently find Gay be-
tween classes, clad in western
jeans, shirt, and cowboy boots.
Gay enjoys shooting and has an
.average score of 93 on the girl's
rifle team at the TSC military de-
partment. She keeps in practice
shooting rabbits and squirrels with
' ftlther her revolver or rifle.
^Gay's favorite hobby carries her
back to her ranch home in New
Mexico. Here she has two thor-
ough-bred mares and a thorough-
bred quarterhorse. In the future
she hopes to own and live on a
ranch in Colorado. "I like the
mountains there, she explained.
Hobbies
Other hobbies include wood car-
"ving and collecting- soap.. Gay
carves framed pictures from solid
blocks of wood. She now has four
.completed large pictures and has
'collected many small bars of soap.
Gay is a member of the TSC
FFA capter and the Rodeo Club.
She plans to ride the barrel race
in the TSC Rodeo Saturday.
Has Learned to Weld .
"In connection with her ag course
Gay takes two engineering
. „ courses, animal husbandry and
farm math. Later she will study
under the curriculum of a pre-
veterinary major. In her engi-
neering the Tarleton cowgirl has
learned to use an electric welder.
She marks this as one of her ac-
complishments along with learn-
ing to play tennis and improve her
English writing.
Gay, following the end of school,
plans to return to Ijer ranch home
where she will be "back in the
saddle again."

Publication Staff Picnic
Set Monday at Glen Rose
The annual GRASSBURR and
J-TAC picnic is slated for Monday.
The combined staffs of the two
publications and their guests will
go to Glen Rose.
The editors and staff of next
year's publications will be announc-
ed at that time. Awards will also
be given to other members of the
staffs for outstanding work and
grades.

shares some of the western interest of the cattle-minded coed.
