The Young Republican -Federa-
tion is interested In establishing
a Young Republican Club on the
T'SC and other college campuses
throughout Texas, the Federa-

cently.

More Students Needed!
For Trip, Sponsor Says
It may not be April in Paris,;
but it will be July in Paris for
those students who sign up for the
European tour being sponored by
Dr." A. 0. Grant, professor of so-
cial science at Tarleton.
Since the first publication ap-
peared in this paper about the
trip five students have signed up
to go. The desired number of
students to make the trip is 15.
If that amount or more sign up
for the tour a private bus will
be provided to the group for the
entire tour. This would be an
advantage, in that it would help
them avoid having to meet bus
schedules and give the group

Jubilee Tickets
Sold for
Dec. 8 Program
Tickets are now on sale for the
Tarleton Jubilee which takes place
in the conservatory December
Speech students are selling the
tickets at 25 cents each they will
also be sold at the door.
The Four Moonshines, RCA re-
cording artists from Abiliene, will
take part in the entertainment and
will be followed by the Tophatters
dance band.
Three one act plays will head-
line the show. Stage crew working
behind the scenes are Rodney Ful-
ture, Theodore Guidry, David May-
bry, Clinton Lehrer, Donald Mc-
Keg and William Scott.
Ushers will be David Chatfield
and Johnny Boler. "Ticket sales-
woman at the door.will be Mrs. Lois
Moser from the Guineas office,
Mrs. Dover, TSC Postmistress,
will collect the tickets," Miss Lill-
ard, speech director, said.
A quartet of trumpets from the
Tarleton band department will
play a fanfare at the begining of
the program. The musicians for
the event: will be Bev Cawyer, Iv
W^ -Hallford,' Fred Green, and
Wayland Rapp.

days with 33 days actually being
spent in Europe'. Transportation
and all arrangements regarding
hotels and meals will be made by
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. .The
tour will originate from Hous-
ton Texas arid the departure
date is now set-for July 10, 1960.
Dr. Grant would be pleased to
talk with parents or students in-
terested in the tour., He may hr
contacted by telephone in Steph-
enville at Lindsey 4944 or Lihd-
sey 4492, at the college in room
153 of the Science Building, or
at 950 W. Vanderbilt, St. sche-
duled stops on the tour include,
Amsterdam, Cologne, Bonn,
Heidelberg, Munich, Salzburg,
"Venice, Florence, Rome, Pisa,
Paris and London.
The TS'C choirs began a busy pre-
Christmas schedule Friday when
the Grand Choir presented a pro-
gram at Killeen High School and
another the same day at - Gray
AFB, also in Killeen...The choir was
supplemented by the dance band
during the performance at the base
for. both officers and,enlisted men, ■
* The Grand Choir is scheduled,
to sing again for the Carripus Club,
the Stephenvile Study Cl'ub, ■ and
the Twentieth Century Club in the
college dining hall. The Chamber
Choir will perform Thursday at 3
p. m. for the Readers Club, and
again Thursday night for the Am-
erican Association of University
Women.
The TSC vocal groups will com-
bine Dec. 17 at 8 p. m, for the an-
nual Christmas ■ concert, to be held
in the Main Auditorium. The pro-
gram will be under the direction
of Francis Woodward. It will in-
clude a group of Christmas songs,
sung by the Chamber Choir and
a pantomime scene of the popular
children's story "The Night Before
Christmas," with music supplied
by the Chamber Choir;
. Alice Sheffield, a student from
Dallas who is a folk singer and
composer, will sing a group of un-
familiar folk carols of the sixteenth
century and contemporary periods.
A newly organized male quartet
wil al'so present two selections, "O
Tannerbaum" and "God Rest You
Merry Gentlemen." Saundra Dut-
ton ,a member of both choits, will
sing Mel Horme's "Christmas
Song."
The second portion of the con-
cert will pi'esent the Grand Choir
singing several selections. These
will include a group of six carols
arranged by Robert Shaw. Three
larger works, "Holy Radiant
Light," by Gretehaninoff, "I Won-
der Aa I Wander," by Niles, and
"The Shepherds' Story" by Die-
kerson, will also be sung by the
Grand Choir. The( group will then
render a group of popular Christ-
mas songs, including a new' elyp-
so arrangement of "Jingle Bells".
The group will ,close the program
with Handel's "Hallejujah Choif-
us" from the Messiah.
WW Rifles Announce
Plans for Annual Ball
The Wainwright Rifles have set
Dec. 1J2 from 8 until 12 p.m. as
the date and time and the dining
hall -as the setting for their annual
formal Wau*wright Ball This
year the theme of the dance will
he "Christmas iij Outer Space."
Tickets can be purchased from
any Wainwright member for
two dollars stag or drag. Tommy
Kemp, Wainwright Commander,
stated that they are expecting to
sell around 150 tickets. He also
revealed that the campus combo
known as the "Tophatters" will
play for the dancing.
Squad Leaders Bur.win Reed and
Blake Curl are in charge of the
decorations which will carry out
the "Christmas in Outer Space"
theme.
Lighting and the place curds are
in the custody of Squad- Leader

Jack Hudson will take charge of

Science Students
To See Research
Facilities on Trip
Two groups of TSC science stu-
dents will make trips to several
scientific, research institutions- in
the future, under the sponsorship
of the National' Science Foundation
Richard Poe, instructor of ehemis-
ti*y, announced last week.
Eight students in two teams of
four each will see all the scien-
tific research facilities of the
foundations which they visit, and
will hear short lectures by profes-
sors and research men, the in-
structor said. By the sponsorship
of such a program, through the
Texas Academy of Science, the
Foundation hopes to encourage
more research and advanced de-

members this year. There were 20
bids "accepted. Jerry Miller, sopho-

Woods is a sophomore Home Eco-
nomics major from DeLeon, and
Barbara Burke is a sophomore

Barbara Umphress and Blake
Curl reported that their respective
el'ubs, Sine Cera arid Barons, each
have 4 new pledges. Miss Umph-
ress' home is in Dublin and she is
majoring in Liberal Arts. Curl is
a sophomore Business Administra-
tion student from Tolar.
Formal initiations for each of
the Social Clubs were held last
week. The presentation ceremon-
ies are being planned.
Match Club Meets
To Elect Officers
The TSC Mathematics Club in
a meeting last night took the first
step in the election of its officers,
a club spokesman announced to-
day. Meetinp in room 155 of the
Science Building at 6:30 p.m., the
club appointed a nominating com-
mittee to present a slate of offic-
ers which will be elected at the
next meeting..
Those appointed to the com-
mittee were Eugene Birth, Tommie
Tate, and JerreT Harris. A second
committee to consider amendments
to the club constitution was alao
appointed and asked - to submit
its recommendations at the next
meeting. Those serving on the
committee are Robert Bighans,
Billy Carroll, and R. L. Savage.
Mr. Otto Bielss; and Dr. Wade
Andrews also serve as ex-officio
; members. .
Following the business session
Dr. Andrews discussed some of
the aspects of the mathematical
concept of sets. Club officials
emphasized that anyone interested
in mathematics is invited to attend
' the meetings of the club.
