Prefers Physics Career:
Los Cob-DJS.T,
Sock Hop Held
Saturday Night
A thx*ee-hour dance and floor
show entertained an audience of
about 120 people in the college
rec hall, sponsored by the Los
Cobbs and DST social plubs Sat-
urday. The most amusing event of
the year was witnessed by patrons
as the "Soc Hop" got under way,
the audience indicated.
All shoes were taken at the door
where a 25 cent admission. was
paid. Later one shoe from each girl
was tagged and the men picked
one up, claiming a dance with-the
owner.
A highlight of the dance came
during an intermission when eight
of "Tarleton's cuties" arrived.
They were Mrs. Imen Misery
(Billy Bob Sandford), Miss El Pas-
sionate, (Sherman Noble), Miss
Truletta Yandry (Bill Yandry), 1 with laughs." Music was provided
Miss Tressey Cunn J Jerry Miller 'by hi-fi phonograph, rigged with
Gunn), Miss Penelope Doublecross a speaker system. .
' Although James Latham, this
week's Cadet of the Week has an
extensive background in music, he
is majoring in physics and some-
day hopes to be a physicist, Lath-
am, who graduated from Steph-
enville High School last year, says
he enjoys music but feels he can
have a better career in the field
of physics,
James has always been active.in
areas other than that of his
studies. He was Drum Major for
the Stephenville High School band
and made the all-state band two
years in succession as a trom-
bonist. His acholastic achievments
include the Certificate of Merit for
the National Merit Scholarship
Society,"
tional Merit Scholarship Society.
Since coming to Tarleton, James
has -become Drum Major for the
Tarleton Band, is a member of the
Top-Hatters orchestra, belongs to
the Top-Hatters Combo, is in the
Debate Club, and belongs to the
Silver Keys.''
Latham has shown considerable
merit in the ROTC at Tarleton.
He is in the Waimvright Band and
has achieved the rank of sergeant.
He thinks very highly of the Corps
and thinks every boy should be in
it.
James entered Tarleton because
of its high scholastic rating and
(James Cross), Miss Sufie Kemp
(Tommy Kemp), Miss Eugenie
Mansfield (Eugene Johnson), and
Miss Daisie Mae McKenzie (Calvin
McKenzie).
After a short conversation with
this "moose club" there was a
special ladies* choice, when the
eight Tarleton beauties asked
victims for a dance. James Rivers,
Bob Blakeman, Truman Bridges,
Junior Caraway, Danny Swafford,
Blake Curl, and Benny. Wright
were chosen as partners for the
spotlight danc.
Calvin McKenzie, vice-president
of the Los Cabalieros, said that in
speaking for the club members,
he "appreciated the help and good
humor that, the non-members
showed in presenting-the show."
The only additional scenery at
the rec hall for the dance was , a
stage; however no scenery was
necessary. "Everyone seemed to
have -a good time and was loaded
because it is close to home. After
finishing his education he plans
to enter the army as an officer
and then establish himself as a
physicist, ,
- Despite . his other activities,
James still finds time for his
many hobbies. He has an avid in-
terest in music and has a record
collection of 50 albums. He Slso
-collects stamps and is a licensed
amateur radio operator.
