Stephen F, Austin, with",
their skyscraper height and
uncanny shooting, rallied"
from a 48-36 deficit and
dominated the second half
of play in the Texan field-
house Saturday night, down-
ing the Tarleton Texans 106-
69.
The Lumberj acks re-
ceived quite a surprise as
the underdog Texans refused
to lie down and give in to
the #1 team in the nation.
Instead, the mini-Texan,s re-
taliated with the quick one-
two punch of Steve Dean and
Richard Crockett to make a
contest out of the first'half
of action.
The walls on the old
barn shook as the bi-partisan
crowd, the largest this sea-
son in the Texan fieldhouse,
roared from the first basket
tallied by James Silas until
the final whistle.
Cliff Wilkins put the
Texans on ttie scoreDoard
with a 35-foot one-hander.
Tarleton began their
combo with Steve Dean's
torrid shooting in the first
half. Dean popped the nets
for 22 points in the first
period of play, and the senior
southpaw hit a torrid eight
of 13 from the floor.
The other half of the
Texan punch was {he tough
rebounding of Richard Crock-
ett, At 6-7, Crockett was the
tallest Texan, but the 'Jacks
had the edge in 7-0 George
Johnson and 6-9 Narvis An-
derson. Despite ( the di sad-
vantage, Crockett went to
the boards for a total of
seven rebounds/
The Texans .closed the
gap 36-44 as the first half
came to a shattering end.
" The second half took its
toll on the Texans as the
'Jacks used their decided
height advantage to wear
