Series to present Christy Minstrels
The internationally
acclaimed New Christy
Minstrels will bring their
show to the TSU campus
March 26 for the final
program of the school year
sponsored by the TSU
Civic Series Committee.
The eight-member New
Christy Minstrels were
reborn in 1961 after an
absence from the en-
tertainment world for 40
years. The youthful group
made their first ap-
pearance in Los Angeles
and since that time nave
performed throughout the
United States ana in Japan
(twice), Australia,
Rhodesia, South Africa,
Germany, Italy. Canada,
Viet Nam, and Thailand.
Featuring pop and folk
music, the group had their
own weekly television
show on NBC in the 1960's
and have since appeared
with Bob Hope,
Thomas, Vikki Carr, The
spearec
Banns
Fifth dimension. Alan
King, Connie Frances,
Joey Bishop, Dinah Shore,
Buddy Hacsett, and Julie
Andrews.
Additionally, the New
Christy Minstrels have
srformed at the World
Series, Super Bowl, Sugar
Bowl, and in a command
performance for the
Queen of England. One of
the highlights of their 17-
year career was a per-
formance at the White
House welcoming home
ASTP to host TSU reunion
A reunion of the men
who attended TSU under
the Army Sepcialized
Training Program during
the World War II years of
194344 will be held next
fall, according to J. Louis
Evans, executive
secretary of the Tarleton
Alumni Association.
The reunion will be
sponsored by the
association and will be
held on the TSU campus
Oct. 11-13.
The ASTP was
established during WW II
to teach engineering to
hand-picked members of
the different branches of
the armed forces.
At its peak, ap-
proximately 700 men were
attending ASTP classes on
the TSU campus. Regular
students living on campus
were moved out of the
dormitories, and ASTP
students were housed in
the university facilities.
Several Tarleton faculty
members were reassigned
from their regular
teaching responsibilities
to the ASTP program.
The training sessions
were originally designed
for three sessions of tnree

Nominations
to be March 20
Nominations for Mr. and
Miss TSU and class
favorites will be March 20.
A Senate constitutional
amendment will also be
voted on.
Final elections for
favorites and Mr. and Miss
TSU will be March 27.
Inflation hits honor grades
The Faculty Senate last week approved raising honor
graduate standards as recommended by the Academic
Council.
The new honor standards are 3.8 GPA for highest
honors. 3.6 for high honors, and 3.4 for honors, said Dr.
Russell Long of the English faculty. These were raised
from a GPA of 3.8 highest honors, 3.5 high honors, and
3.2 honors.

all began back in 1862
when lone minstrels were
travelling the countryside
