There is a new computer
cataloguing and inter-library
loan system in the TSU Library.
The OCLC Inc. system, installed
last summer, enables TSU to
catalog new books faster and to
borrow books and articles from
almost 600 other libraries across
the nation.
Christine Thompson is in
charge of cataloging the books.
She says an average of 1000

Tom Jones organized the
students into a task force-those
financially desperate enough to
tolerate sore muscles, touchy
[nerves and exhaustion to work at
the sale.
The group, consisting of Tom,
John Carlson, Helen Cleveland,
Denise Dean, Bonnie Green, Amy
Willeke and Susan Wingo, left
Stephenville at 5 a.m. Saturday.
On their arrival at the ranch, the
group spent several hours
grooming and preparing 55 Baker
horses for the sale ring.
Nearly 150 horses in all passed
through the sale, which started a
1:30 p,m, and ended about 8:30.
Prices as high as $20,000 were
paid for some of the better hor-
ses.
"It was a trying experience-
attempting to lead emotionally
charged horses through throngs
of gabbing spectators," said one
TSU worker. "Trying to wipe that
last speck of dust off a 1200-pound
frightened horse wasn't any joke,
either!"
The attending TSU students
generally felt that the sale was a
good learning experience.
Whether or not it was good
enough to lure them back next
year may be another matter,
though.

Old building to go
Sticking to the university's cur-
rent creed of "A New Image for
the 80s," the oldest building on
the TSU campus is scheduled to
be demolished this spring.
TSU president Dr. W. O.
Trogdon announced that funds
have been appropriated to raze
the old Home Economics
Building. The three-story red
brick and native stone building
was constructed 65 years ago as
the administration building for
John Tarleton College. Built with
a bequest from Mollie J. Crow, a
wealthy resident of Erath Coun-
ty, the $60,000 building also hous-
ed the college auditorium and
several classrooms.
The Home Economics Depart-
ment was established in the base-
ment of the building by Mrs. Lily
Pearl Chamberlin a few months
after the building was completed.
The department remained in the
building more than 60 years and
eventually took over the
auditorium and other facilities.
The auditorium was used by the
department for style shows and
workshops.
The Home Economics Depart-
ment moved into a new 16,000
square-foot addition to the Health
and Physical Education Building
in the summer of 1977.
The old building was used last
year to house the Department of
Agriculture while the agriculture
building was being remodeled.
Except for the basement, which
has been used by the General Ser-
vices Administration for several
years, the building has not been
occupied for the past nine mon-
ths.
Dr. Trogdon said maintenance
personnel will salvage part of the
building and fixtures before it is
demolished. Once the building
and basement have been remov-
ed, the site will be leveled and
