to study for tests

It's time to hit the books again,
because finals are just around the
corner. Many students have begun
to worry, but studies show that if
one doesn't have a good grasp of
the material now, they probably
never will. Reviewing is the best
alternative.
A study from the University of
Texas shows that many students
have to learn the subject for the first
time when they begin to study for
finals, due to poor managment of
lime during the semester.
The first few weeks of classes
should set the habits and patterns
for the rest of the course. The study
adds that even students who are do-
ing average or better academically
could improve self-discipline and
school work with a little more ef-
ficiency in time management.
Specifically, getting tutors, stu-
dying with others and scheduling
study time will increase the chances
of passing a final. To study with a
group, plan a session three or four
days before the exam. On the night
before the scheduled session, study
only a few chapters fully and simp-
ly skim the others. Then at the ses-
sion, students can ask one another
questions about the chapters they

A record number of students
have applied for graduation at
Tarleton State University this
semester. According to the
registrar's office, almost 400
students are candidates for gradua-
tion, including 57 masters can-
didates, 29 nursing and 300
bachelors.
Spring commencement
ceremonies have been set for Satur-
day, May 18 with Dr. William
Howard Clayton, president of
Texas A&M University at
Galveston, to deliver the address.
Exercises for those receiving
masters degrees or associated
degrees in nursing will be at 1 p.m.
in the main auditorium of the Clyde
Wells Fine Arts Renter.
Commencement exercises for
bachelors degree candidates will be
at 3 p.m. in Wisdom Gymnasium.
Clayton will speak at both
ceremonies.
Special awards to be presented
during the ceremonies include the
university's Distinguished
Teaching Awards, which this year
will go to faculty members
representing the three schools.
